Missed Dosage Calc by two points!!!

Published

Edison Community College in Piqua, Ohio requires us to achieve a grade of at least a 90% on our dosage calc test to remain in the program. I received and 88% yesterday. The good news is I have one more chance next week to take it again. I just made some stupid mistakes because I rushed through it too fast. I can't know the material any better than I already do. I'm holding my head up and moving forward because I know I will pass it the next time.

What is your schools policy on dosage calc. tests?

Aww. I'm sorry to hear about that. I too rushed when I had my exam. I'm soooo good at those calc problems.... I even tutored some of my fellow class mates. However, when it came to exam time I almost failed. I rushed through the exam, I didn't go over the questions and answers, and I didn't double and triple check my work. So my advice to you is to take your time. Show your work, Go over your work. Oh, my school policy is that we get a 80 and we have two trys. The first try is the beggining of the class, the second try is the last day of class. If we don't pass we fail. There are 20 questions we have to pass. I would also advise you to do a ton of practive problems as well, until you'll able to do the problems in your sleep ! Write down the following:

1. Order

2. Available/ on hand

3. Conversion

4. What you need. I.E . ( how many tabs/mg ?)

What also helped me was writing down all my conversions before I took the exam. Good luck on your second try. I know you can do it !

Keep us updated, okay ?

At my school, you have to make a 90% as well. Good luck on your next one. Just take your time and double and triple check your work!

I did the same thing the first time I took it. Got my head together and got a 100% the second time I took it. Good luck. What I did was made a flashcard with the pertinent conversions for UOM and the equations I needed and studied that any chance I got. I got thrown off cause I printed out our practice test and used it, then they must have updated it so when I went to take the test there was a UOM on there that I hadn't studied since I had been using an old version unbeknownst to me. I printed out the new one and used it and my flashcard and it went fine. Does your school offer a practice test? If not, go to STLCC.edu and find the nursing website and use their practice test if you want one.

I'm in pre-nursing...

what is UOM? Is it unit of measurement?

Also, on the tests are you allowed to use a calculator or all by longhand?

Are there alot of IV calucalation questions?

Any websites that helped you!

Thanks

We had to have 100%. We had one make-up if we didn't pass the first time. If we didn't get it the second time, we were out.

May I just say how refreshing it is to see a student acknowledge a problem and have a plan to correct it :)

Knock it outta the ballpark with the next test!!!

we have to two chances to get a 100%

We have an into pharma class (intro to drug calculations) and a pharma for nurses class. If you don't pass the first test in the pharma class with at least an 80%, you can take it again, but if you don't pass, you are automatically dropped from the class. Then, in the pharma for nurses class, you take a test. You get 3 chances to get a 90%. If you don't pass it, you get kicked out of that and Fundamentals. We have a math test at the beginning of every semester of school.

In LPN school you had to pass the dosage calc test by 85% and you had three tries.

In RN school, they just implemented a math proficiency exam last semester. You have to get 100% or you have to take it again. If you don't get 100% on the 2nd try, you take it one final time. Even if you don't pass that time, you still continue on. They will "in the future" had some sort of final test %, but they don't at this time.

At my school Kent state you have to pass with 100% or you're out
