Liking members at AN

Published

Perhaps because I don't mind agreeing to disagree but something I really enjoy here are the times when someone I previously thought was a dope says something I think is smart and they are moved from my imaginary dope to my imaginary sharp list. :)

Throughout my life I strive to keep an open mind so I don't miss something profound. There are some people here I have "known" for years, respect and think I would like to work with and might even enjoy them as a friend. There are others who I wonder how they manage to tie their shoes this morning let alone pass NCLEX but again I continue to keep an open mind and very often I am pleasantly surprised.

Do you change favorite posters here or are you consistent with who you appreciate and who you aren't so thrilled with? Does anyone block members? My curiosity would never allow that, lol.

Specializes in Psychiatric Nursing.

Meanmaryjean, what is NTI? I would love to meet some allnurses members in person!

AN has an awesome booth t NTI. I went last year and met a bunch of members including Commuter.

I don't block people, but I do delete a LOT of posts before hitting "Post Comment" I can tell you that!

I post the first thing I write.

Yeah I very rarely pull any punches content wise but I often have to edit a million times for fragments, misspellings etc. So if you think my grammar is rudimentary as you see it that's often not the first draft. :D

Specializes in Neuro/ ENT.
It was called "BabyCenter" . . .if memory serves. That was in 2001.

Yep... that's the one lol

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

National Teaching Institute of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. HUGE conference held in May every year. Really great content- 6000 or so attend.

Jules A you rock and roll. Lady Free 28, GRN TEA, NRS Karen, CapeCodMermaid, Fiona (

I really enjoy writing/language. Sometimes ad nauseum. I am not what one would call mainsteam, but I think I am pretty clear about that, at the same time "Miss Manners"

I love the humor in so many things, so many posts. lots of posters. What brings out the "parent" and/or passion in me, I am sure is irritating to some, but mostly, posters will just come out and say it. (or post it). So I don't block anyone, as all have their right to think alternately than me! (Except for my real life kids, they have little choice

I learn, grow, think differently, and love that about AN.

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Psych, Geri, LTC, Tele,.

Depends on the particular forum on baby center, in my experience! But yes some are ruthless.

The other was a certain breastfeeding board! Those women were vicious!! Lol!

Specializes in CCU, SICU, CVSICU, Precepting & Teaching.
The Weight Watchers boards are pretty darn funny too.

Back when I was reading them they were mostly unintentionally funny. Too sweet for my taste.

I used to be involved in a Usenet group discussing ABC soap operas. Man, that got "spirited." It was totally unmoderated and some posters were perpetually angry and foul "mouthed." I remember commenting one time that Carly (supposedly an evil, nasty character) and Liz (supposedly a perfect little angel) did pretty much the same things (lied, cheated, etc.) and that I couldn't understand why everyone vilified Carly for doing the exact things that Liz was excused for. WHOA! I had hundreds of emails every hour calling me every foul name in the book and threatening my life and limbs. Then someone posted a satellite image of my home and told me that be at my door shortly to "take me out." AN is really, really mild compared to that!

Specializes in Geriatrics, Dialysis.
I don't have anyone blocked. There are several people I really admire and enjoy reading.

I don't post much but that's mainly because I find the world of nursing in the US is much different than in Canada!

Please do post more. One of my many fascinations is the differences in nursing practice and culture outside my little corner of the world and the international forum was just too bonkers for me [sorry to those of you that frequent it!]

To answer OP's original question....thee are too many members to count that I really enjoy and nobody that I've even considered blocking. Depending on my mood the clueless, pompous or just plain rude are the threads I like to read! Mostly because the members I really like usually have way better responses than I can think of.

Over a soap opera?! Which is fictional......

Me too! Allnurses is great, but I can't say that getting rid of that pesky old 5-minute edit window and getting the "premium membership" had nothing to do with my decision to spend the money.......:whistling:

To the topic in general, there are some people who I like so much I give their posts a like without reading all the way through them. There are some members I was sure hated me, and who I later discovered had no specific knowledge of who I was. I never hold a grudge or keep a mental tally of who has offended me, so I might "like" something written by someone who offended me earlier the same day.
