Perhaps because I don't mind agreeing to disagree but something I really enjoy here are the times when someone I previously thought was a dope says something I think is smart and they are moved from my imaginary dope to my imaginary sharp list. :)
Throughout my life I strive to keep an open mind so I don't miss something profound. There are some people here I have "known" for years, respect and think I would like to work with and might even enjoy them as a friend. There are others who I wonder how they manage to tie their shoes this morning let alone pass NCLEX but again I continue to keep an open mind and very often I am pleasantly surprised.
Do you change favorite posters here or are you consistent with who you appreciate and who you aren't so thrilled with? Does anyone block members? My curiosity would never allow that, lol.
I started out on a mommy/baby site when my youngest son was born and boy, they can be mean!
So, AN is so peaceful in comparison. I started here not too long after hightailing it out of the mommy wars!
I haven't blocked anyone but I've had to walk away from the site for awhile more than once. Not lately though.
I have learned a lot from posters who I don't see eye to eye with and am grateful. I just remembered someone here a long time ago saying they couldn't be friends with someone who didn't share their thoughts/ideas. I don't agree with that at all. Viva and I had a go-around or two in the olden days. And now we are good friends and have met up a couple of times in real life.
That anti-vaxx thread was fun! I'm just finishing up a Vaccine History class put on by Dr. Offit due to that thread.
I like this thread about like AN members! Good idea!

Ditto for me! I was flamed more than once in a certain baby/mom site!! I think I've learned more internet manners since then. Plus our mods are better!
I heart AN!
As of late, I have blocked a couple of members - they are too sarcastic and narrow minded for my tastes.
I come here to be moderately entertained and informed. I learned the hard way to never ever (even when posing my own original thoughts) ask for help on homework, too many sarcastic long winded comments/opinons.
But I love thecommuter and calilott... (butchering her username). They have good information and present their views in an non-confrontational way, which I highly respect.
Have any of you ever had this happen? You believe a certain poster on AN is a male, and later on learn they are female? Happened to me more than once!! Eek!!I can't even tell you why I assumed the poster was male!!
YES!! It has happened to me! Both ways! More than once! And truly, when I thought about it, I had no idea why I thought someone was male or female.
My olden days internet was full of a game called Acrophobia. This is comatose compared to the drama there. Then I was mostly on a Lord of the Rings website (nerd alert)AN: I love the snark and the tough love underneath it all. I have learned so much.
I love snark too . . . . satire is good as well.

4chan, man. That's where things got REAL. Once I hit my mid-30s, I mellowed too much for them, though.
I'm curious about the parenting websites others have alluded to. I've been on many (mostly Parentsplace, before it was bought out by iVillage....oh, the memories...)

I was pretty active on AN back in 2004 and prior but life changed and got busy and I was not around for a long while. I came back because I find I like AN more when I am working but probably not working FT. I have enough time to jump on here and relate to other's work situations....or seek other viewpoints. It is sometimes comic relief too. I do see the humor in NOADLS. ha. I use to be more familiar with frequent posters. I'm not familiar enough with posters, these days, to have many favorites. Of course, as someone else said, I tend to like people I agree with more...human nature.
Oh...and never needed to block anyone...that I recall.
Oh...and I remember the AOL nursing boards....omg!!
