Liking members at AN

Published

Perhaps because I don't mind agreeing to disagree but something I really enjoy here are the times when someone I previously thought was a dope says something I think is smart and they are moved from my imaginary dope to my imaginary sharp list. :)

Throughout my life I strive to keep an open mind so I don't miss something profound. There are some people here I have "known" for years, respect and think I would like to work with and might even enjoy them as a friend. There are others who I wonder how they manage to tie their shoes this morning let alone pass NCLEX but again I continue to keep an open mind and very often I am pleasantly surprised.

Do you change favorite posters here or are you consistent with who you appreciate and who you aren't so thrilled with? Does anyone block members? My curiosity would never allow that, lol.

I have never blocked anyone but I am sure there are plenty of people here who don't like my posts but then there are those that do. It is what it is: an anonymous online forum. I don't take anything too seriously.

FWIW, I frequently like your posts..

I'm here to discuss topics with my peers, not listen to someone kvetch because his/her pillows weren't fluffed q2h.

Off topic, but I am always intrigued by people who use the word "kvetch." That is all.

Kvetch is Yiddish meaning complain. It's used more regionally, such as NYC.

I think I might add that to my everyday vocabulary. It can join my occasional use of "frou-frou."

Speaking of people who I love to read on AN, anyone know what happened to leslie:-D? Haven't seen a post in a couple of years.

Keep in mind, it can be a noun or a verb. A kvetch is one who constantly kvetches. In other words, a complainer.

I've only blocked 1 person -- and that was a long time ago (10 years ago?) and it was only temporary. I needed a break from his attacks. We were the most active members of a lively debate that lasted a long time and after several weeks (months?) his comments were getting too personal. So I blocked him to take a break.

Eventually, I un-blocked him and he eased up a bit ... and we drifted apart. I don't know whatever happened to him.

Can I say that someone has been kvetching all day long? I have to admit, the rules of the English language are a bit blurry in my memory.

Yes, there are non stop kvetchers, who keep kvetching and kvetching continually. For example, Yente the matchmaker.

Just FYI, I'm neither Jewish nor from NYC (I live near Philly); I just like the word. My best friend in nursing school was Jewish, and she added a few words to my vocab. It's a more colorful way to say "complain," no?

Here's another one for you: tchotchkes. It means trinkets or knicknacks; usually cheap stuff.

Pronounced as "choch-keys."

I don't see how that correlates to anything. And besides, I was born in the 80's, I'm sure we've been using the internet for just the same amount of time.

But I'm sure Red Kryptonite has been using it for other reasons than to play games and watch cartoons on Netflix longer.
