Perhaps because I don't mind agreeing to disagree but something I really enjoy here are the times when someone I previously thought was a dope says something I think is smart and they are moved from my imaginary dope to my imaginary sharp list. :)
Throughout my life I strive to keep an open mind so I don't miss something profound. There are some people here I have "known" for years, respect and think I would like to work with and might even enjoy them as a friend. There are others who I wonder how they manage to tie their shoes this morning let alone pass NCLEX but again I continue to keep an open mind and very often I am pleasantly surprised.
Do you change favorite posters here or are you consistent with who you appreciate and who you aren't so thrilled with? Does anyone block members? My curiosity would never allow that, lol.
I knew I would see something like this soon. For any travel related inquiry I can count on NEDRN to give his expert advice, I love anything written by TheCommuter, ESME, Grntea, and Ruby Vee, because quite often, the responses are indeed thoughtful and thought provoking in a positive way. There are many others of mention, offering advice and opinion that doesn't raise the hackles of my neck. For me, it is all about a response that is understood and does not come off like you are a total tool. I like how we are able to share personal experiences to help lighten the path for those of us bumping about in the dark.
I have never had to block anyone. Although I did have someone send me pms calling me lots of horrible names and telling me what a vile person I was. I asked them to never contact me again and they didn't. There are many, many people who post things that I love on here. There are some that don't and that's ok. You are never going to agree with everyone. The ones that drive me batty are the ones that ask for an opinion, you give it, but if doesn't agree with their opinion or plan for life, then forget about it. That happens at least 4-5 times a week.
I don't sugarcoat things at all. Not in real life or internet life. Lol. I don't with my own child. I can be very empathetic and sympathetic, when needed, I just don't coddle. I also hope that people will realize what it's really like out there. I often wonder how sometimes people function at life altogether and it scares me that they could be nurses who might take care of me someday. Just like somebody should be really scared if I ever attempt to design and build a bridge. That might not be a good thing!!!
I love it on here. 95% of the people on here are great. I have learned so much from coming on here and reading. I also loved the little cartoon about staying up because someone is wrong on the internet. Coke just about came out of my nose on that one!!
I love AN. I learn so much from all the articles, posts and comments. I don't usually (ok maybe nearly never) share the popular opinion on things, but I really appreciate a lot of the opposing views. They make me think and examine my own thoughts more closely. I don't think there are any other members that I always agree or disagree with. I find that sometimes even when the subject is something I am very passionate about, I can usually find two or three well worded opposing posts that I respect very much, and I will even "like" them. I have much respect for all the nurses that have been in the field before me (as I am about to begin the actual nursing portion of my BSN, finishing up my prereqs this summer). I am very thankful to this online community.
