Perhaps because I don't mind agreeing to disagree but something I really enjoy here are the times when someone I previously thought was a dope says something I think is smart and they are moved from my imaginary dope to my imaginary sharp list. :)
Throughout my life I strive to keep an open mind so I don't miss something profound. There are some people here I have "known" for years, respect and think I would like to work with and might even enjoy them as a friend. There are others who I wonder how they manage to tie their shoes this morning let alone pass NCLEX but again I continue to keep an open mind and very often I am pleasantly surprised.
Do you change favorite posters here or are you consistent with who you appreciate and who you aren't so thrilled with? Does anyone block members? My curiosity would never allow that, lol.
Odd. The one person I have blocked still shows up blocked, and 99% of the time I'm on my Droid phone. I do have the option of clicking a "spoiler" but almost never do. If someone quotes them, of course I can see that.
When I saw that when the blocked person wasn't completely blocked & I could see their post by clicking 'spoiler', I was kind of confused. Isn't the point of blocking someone NOT to see their post?
I'm a very new poster but I've been lurking since before I knew what CNA stood or that there is more than one type of nursing degree (I was really, really confused). AN has played a tremendous role in helping me become a nurse thus far; you've armed me with more wisdom than I thought the Internet had to offer. So, I just have to say that if I ever met a "famous" AN member in person I wouldn't even be able to keep my cool. I'd declare them my idol and ask for their autograph.
(I can't figure out how to quote on my phone but this is in response to the posters who've said they met other AN members in person)
This was a fun thread to read! Thanks, JulesA, for starting it! I've been a member since my pre-nursing days...but have gone through periods of inactivity. I was so excited when I realized there was an app! I do almost all my posting through it now!
I've also learned so much from so many of you! I find I definitely have my favorites that I "look up to" and usually agree with everything they post! And I don't think I've ever blocked anyone.
Can someone tell me what COB stands for? (I think I know...but just want to check!) :)

"Crusty Old Bat." this harkens back to before before, an ancient post from a young'un complaining about older nurses critical of suboptimal practice and immaturity. It was meant to be insulting but some took it as a badge of honor. In answer to the inevitable question, anyone can be a COB. There are no dues, but you can buy us a drink someday. All you need to do is copy and paste the line in the siggy, and you're set.
Nice to see you again!
It's all good, and most of it is useful.
The poster I loved the most when I first joined was Tewdles. I have not seen any of her posts for a couple of years. I recall from a post or 2 of hers that she was having treatments (chemo?), I hope she is okay. Her posts are worth looking through.

I miss Tewdles too...she helped awake me from my hiatus!!!

Haha! Thanks! It was similar to what I was thinking! I'm too mushy-gooshy to be crusty! (Though that's probably due to still being a relatively "young" nurse!) I'm super grateful for the wise wisdom of COBs though! And I'm sure I'll join the ranks eventually!
Thank you, from you a compliment means a lot. Most of it dates to my pre-guide days, when some of what I wrote makes me want to...plus a gradual realization that most of the time the spats were more of an energy drain than anything else.
I think we all have posted things we later wished we hadn't. :)
I mostly lurk unless theres something I can answer or theres something so ridiculous I cant possibly stay silent. I didnt even know there was a block feature haha. Do you guys have conversation that extend to PMs or are do you just get that upset that not reading their post isnt enough that you have to wipe all traces of a posters existence from your view
I like too many posters to list by name and this community has been a godsend to me in my journey to becoming a nurse. I found AN long before I actually went to nursing school and I am so glad I did. I have learned so much.
I have only ever blocked one person and that was in the Ebola threads last year. I can usually just ignore posts but that particular poster was making me see red, so I blocked. I did eventually unblock them.
I cut my internet message board teeth over soap opera boards (GH and YR fan ). I find the flame wars here a lot tamer than the soap boards.
I'm a noob (relatively speaking), and I lurked here for a while before jumping in and posting. The School Nurse board has been my saving grace some days. It's tough being the only nurse-person in your building so they are a good bunch to vent to and laugh with. I consider that board my virtual nurse's station/desk.
This is adorable. That's how I think of it, too.
