Johns Hopkins 2015 ABSN & Masters Entry

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

This thread is for applicants applying to Johns Hopkins, for either the ABSN or the new Master's Entry program. I've searched a few times and haven't found a thread for this year's admissions cycle, so I decided to start one.

After lots of thinking, I decided to apply to the Master's Entry instead of the ABSN. Anyone else out there applying?

Do you know why that is?

@ spaceshuttleboy. The website says that it's due to changing nursing practice, etc. I've got the feeling that JHU is a more research centered school rather than focusing on training bedside nurses because with an ABSN, it's providing foundation and skills to work as a RN and enter the workforce sooner. did you withdraw from JHU after receiving acceptance to NYU?

Yeah, it does seem to be more research-centered. That was one thing that attracted me to it. I guess it's unfortunate that they'll end their ABSN program, but it might be a good idea to simply attract more candidates that intend to pursue a masters if that's where their program has its strengths.

I haven't withdrawn my application. I figured that I've already paid the fee so I'd like to not deny myself having the results of the application either way. I've declined NYU and I'll be attending Rochester in January. If I get into JHU, I'll refuse the offer and someone else will be able to have my place.

I graduated from Hopkins in December 2013 and worked in the the admissions office so if anyone has any questions please let me know I can try my best to help! I cannot speak for the Direct entry masters but I can speak to the ABSN part. Also @spaceshuttleboy I live in Rochester and work as a nurse at the U of R! Small world :)

spaceshuttle, I'm in a similar predicament now. I've received one acceptance and two interview invites at schools that I really want to attend.

Wow, congrats. Which do you want to go to more? When are their start dates? If you can wait, it might just be a good idea for you to hold your space at one of these schools until JHU begins sending out decisions in a few months. I'd have really loved to go to JHU, but I think I'll apply for a nurse residency there after I'm done with my ABSN in December.

Hi! I actually have a question! I didn't end up sending my app until Dec 6th...have I completely shot myself in the foot for getting a spot in the ABSN program?

John Hopkins isn't ccne accredited...how can nurses possibly get a job after graduation??

hey everyone,

I am also applying for the Master's entry in Nursing as well. Good Luck to everyone and hope we hear good news. Does anyone know when they actually send out the acceptance? I will greatly appreciate this :-)

I emailed them back in November and they told me feb/mar decisions will be made and sent out. Good luck! :)

A simple Google search shows that this is incorrect.

cnp, thanks for your offer to provide some insider info! For the 13-month ABSN program, how long are the breaks? And do you know how most people choose to spend those breaks? (Do most ABSN students take advantage of study abroad opportunities? Go home to visit families? Stay local?) Thanks!
