Hello all, I just wanted know how you try to stay sexy while in nursing school, going to clinical, or even working as a nurse. I see so many of us and we look kind of bland. How do you maintain feeling like a woman if your nails can't be done, with pretty polish, or you can't wear make up. So tell me what do you do to keep your sexy.
Do a lot of nurses not wear make up? If so, I'll fit right in. I'm am so NOT a girly girl. I don't do make up (unless I'm dressed up in a dress for a very special occasion).. I'd live in sweats if I could.. I usually pull my hair into a pony tail rather than fool with it.. (again, unless I'm getting dressed up) I hate perfume but I would NEVER leave the house without deodorant.I also would never head to work without a long shower! I love the smell of old fashion Ivory soap.. wish that would last all day.
Same here; I do use Philosophy's Pure Grace body shampoo. It is clean and fresh-smelling; no "perfumey smell." I don't do make-up; never have, and never will. As for nails, acrylics are not allowed; can often harbor fungus.

Are you kidding me? Is this a serious question?
I would also caution about the fragrance issue, not just for the patients but for the sake of your co-workers as well. What one person thinks is a "light spritz" or a "light fragrance" could be a trigger for asthma or a migraine in a sensitive person. Deodorant (pref. unscented) and a clean body are all you really need fragrance wise. Save the scents for your off time. I have had days where I have gone home from work sick due to someone's "light perfume." Back in the Dark Ages, when I went to school, perfume and fragrances were verboten.
Perfumes, etc. are a no no for a reason. That's a good rule and really should be enforced.
Ways to stay feminine on the job...sexy undies can be your own little secret, ironed/pressed scrubs always look nice, a little shiny lip gloss, and sparkly small earrings. These things always put a little more spring in my step.
UMMMMM got me thinking about how necessary it is for me to still feel femme while I'm scrubbing butts! I wear matching lace lingerie daily and well fitted dickies black label scrubs which are silky feeling. I altered the waist and bust with darts on those horrid white school jacket uniforms I had to wear. I now usually wear tapeet vicini wedges but I've got some leopard print wedges around here too and a red pair of Dr. schols nursing shoes. I use a patchouli scented deodorant by Lush thats very soft and paint my nails beige or baby pink. Make up is just red lipstick and sharp arched eye brows, hair in a french roll. I'm in home health so I guess I can get away with all this but i'd die if a job asked me to plain jane it down. Most of all though what really keeps me feeling feminine is long evening soaks in the tub with aromatherapy oils and then getting all dolled up for bed. I love being a woman. I think being a nurse kinda desexualizes you though.....
I'm a student too but I wear my makeup (usually foundation, mascara, lip gloss or lipstick, just a natural look) and cute stud earrings. Sometimes I'll jazz it up and wear a headband too. That's about all you can do lol. Once I'm a practicing nurse, I plan to wear the tailored scrub tops instead of those boxy ones like I wear in school. They make me look 10 times bigger and I hate them! I see some nurses wear the shirt looking scrub tops. Those would be nice but I guess not all institution's allow that type of scrub shirt. I really hate scrubs, but what can I do? I'll be a nurse! :)

I pull my hair up neatly and wear a bit of make up (a little concealer under the eyes, blush, mascara). Sometimes my nails are painted but I take the polish off once it starts to chip. I think the most important factor in looking clean and professional is that my scrubs fit properly and are not wrinkled. Scrubs that are either too tight or too baggy tend to look frumpy and unflattering.
Many people where I work wear fun colored sneakers and clogs to show off their personalities. It's possible to look cute AND professional. :)
