Hello all, I just wanted know how you try to stay sexy while in nursing school, going to clinical, or even working as a nurse. I see so many of us and we look kind of bland. How do you maintain feeling like a woman if your nails can't be done, with pretty polish, or you can't wear make up. So tell me what do you do to keep your sexy.
To me, being shower fresh, clean and neat hair and natural makeup is 'sexy' enough.
That does it for me too. Also, because I couldn't keep my fingernails polished (as though I had long enough fingernails to polish), I always had a pedicure. Sure, no one could see it...but I knew it was there and that was enough for my ego :)
And for those who choose to wear makeup at work: use WATERPROOF makeup and apply/blend it well. There's nothing that's as tasteless as someone who's got the raccoon eyes, goopy lipstick and foundation smudges from the makeup falling off her face.
well, i used to (and still do) wear neutral pink/ beige polish, keep my nails short, and I wear make up tastefully done- not made up to go clubbing... and if you have a great cut, your hair will show it... dont worry.... you will be fine...wear a good bra, present yourself... wear a *light * fragrance....
I just think its important for a woman to always feel her best no matter what kind of work you do. Not saying you have to show your best, or wearing tight fitting clothes etc. Working in the hospital I hear comments from patients like "Oh my gosh, that nurse looks nasty. I hope she is not my nurse." (meaning they look dirty, etc) So appearance, and hygiene is important.

Yup! You are sooo right! I was part of the disaster team that went to Katrina to deliver medical care, and some of the nurses actually (I am not even kidding) wore MAKEUP in 110 degree weather! The end result was not pretty.
To all stinky nurses: sometimes "au natural" is better than those cheap deodorant sprays, some of which smell like insecticide. Then many people make the crowning mistake of wearing a different-scented perfume on top of that, which make them smell like a sex worker's boudoir.
Perfume is my one major extravagance. I wear unscented anti-perspirant, and a good quality scent that lasts all day.
A couple of weeks ago, a water mains burst, causing our water supply to dwindle to a trickle, so we couldn't have our morning shower. So I got up 45 minutes earlier, slooowly filled our largest pots and heated them on the stove. Hubby and I washed in a bucket that morning-but we washed! No excuses, no matter how expensive your perfume, there is no substitute for cleanliness. Besides, personal hygiene is one of the cornerstones of universal precautions.
HA! I would also do a double take if someone were bragging about smelling good! I fear that I smell like a moose when I am done with my shift, but I sure as heck am going to be clean and showered before I get there! We have a particular nurse who smells so bad that the locker room immediately evacuates when she comes in. I feel so bad for her pts. She says that she believes in smelling "natural"...naturally stinky?
I HATE when people say they want to be "natural". OK, I understand if you don't believe in deodorant, that's fine. But nobody gets to the point that a locker room needs to be evacuated just because they don't use deodorant if they are showering daily. She's probably not showering for 3 days in a row and not wearing deodorant and that's why she stinks. You don't smell that bad after 1 shift. Maybe sweaty, but not so much that people need to evacuate rooms.
There is nothing sexy about wiping butts, cleaning up vomit, coding a patient , or anything else we do as nurses. I find that sort of stuff (make up, elaborate hair ect) can be distracting. Most of the time I am so tired emotionally and physically that looking sexy is the last thing on my mind. I just really don't care. I bathe and am neat looking but don't go out of my way. I'm just a plain girl working in an unsexy profession. I wash, I brush my hair, my uniforms are tidy and ironed. That's about all I can manage. You know?
Do a lot of nurses not wear make up? If so, I'll fit right in. I'm am so NOT a girly girl. I don't do make up (unless I'm dressed up in a dress for a very special occasion).. I'd live in sweats if I could.. I usually pull my hair into a pony tail rather than fool with it.. (again, unless I'm getting dressed up) I hate perfume but I would NEVER leave the house without deodorant.
I also would never head to work without a long shower! I love the smell of old fashion Ivory soap.. wish that would last all day.
