Hello all, I just wanted know how you try to stay sexy while in nursing school, going to clinical, or even working as a nurse. I see so many of us and we look kind of bland. How do you maintain feeling like a woman if your nails can't be done, with pretty polish, or you can't wear make up. So tell me what do you do to keep your sexy.
AH hahahahaha! I am enjoying this thread! It never entered my mind to try look feminine while at work. I work in the OR, so I wear a cap, mask and hospital issued jammies when I am there. I love your spunk, OP.
I do have to give kudos to my dear hubby, because when I come home feeling like I have been dropped from a building and probably looking like it too, he just scoops me up and kisses me all over my face. He then says, "I don't know how you look so gorgeous after working for 12 hours." I then immediately wonder what he wants...:redbeathe
As for keeping yourself looking feminine, you just ARE. It is obvious that you take care of the way you look, so that in itself makes you feminine. A polished, professional looking nurse is always a welcome sight.
I think sexy was the wrong word, I didn't intend for it to sound that way. I just wanted to know how you manage to still fill feminine. I'm not worried about looking good for someone, I know that being professional is the number one thing. Going to work to be sexy is not my intention. I'm just wanting to know what others think. I knew when I got into nursing school, I had to clip my nails, acrylic nails, etc. I work in a hospital so I know how to be professional. In school we are always told you can't have acrylic nails, no polish because of JACHO. The hospital that I'm currently doing clinical at is a faith based hospital so their policy is very strict, you can't have highlights in your hair, or any trendy kind of styles. So that is all I'm saying. I agree with the other poster about missing my perfume, cause I do miss it.
I would never work at a facility that told me I couln't highlight my hair. I can understand no purple highlights....but none at all? That's crazy.
I've never been at a place that allowed nail polish. That I find reasonable sine it is for sanitary reasons.
To the OP, you can be beautiful AND professional and show that you care about your appearance. By the way, my pet peeve when it comes to "looks" is greasy hair. Oh god, can you actually believe some people actually need to be told they should shower daily?
Your last line reminds me of a girl I went to school with who is one of my best friends and we both work at the same hospital. I should preface this by saying that she's one of those people that is always running late. One day, we were talking about wearing perfume & scented lotions to work. She made some kind of comment to the effect of, "one night I showered before work & all my patients said I smelled so good!" I was like... "errrr, don't you always shower before work?" I guess she showers in the morning & then goes back to bed, then sleeps until 6ish. I politely told her maybe she should get up 20 minutes earlier and shower every night before she goes in.
HA! I would also do a double take if someone were bragging about smelling good! I fear that I smell like a moose when I am done with my shift, but I sure as heck am going to be clean and showered before I get there!
We have a particular nurse who smells so bad that the locker room immediately evacuates when she comes in. I feel so bad for her pts. She says that she believes in smelling "natural"...naturally stinky?
