How do you stay sexy in nursing school

Published

Hello all, I just wanted know how you try to stay sexy while in nursing school, going to clinical, or even working as a nurse. I see so many of us and we look kind of bland. How do you maintain feeling like a woman if your nails can't be done, with pretty polish, or you can't wear make up. So tell me what do you do to keep your sexy.

I used to do make up now I'm just freaking tired...I used to wash my hair everyday now I'm freaking tired.Honestly,I prefer to sleep for 30 minutes more than do a glamorous look.I can have one on my days off,I simply dont care what other say as long as I do a good job and I prefer to be on time at my place of employment.

Where I work EVERYONE wears makeup. I'm just unusual lol.

Wow what time they get up? Cause my make up takes me 20 miniutes,by the time I wash my hair take a shower, eat breakfast, walk my dogs I'm arleady late to my work LOL or I'm a walking zombie. So I wash my hair every other day and put my make up on my days off!!! See I do a really detailed make up maybe that is why LOL:)

We were allowed to wear makeup in Nursing school but at work the Nurses/techs even have fake nails. There are a lot of cute scrubs out there that don't look so frumpy either- Koi makes some really cute styles. Also, I think that you can still wear makeup and have it look natural and could get away with it! It just depends on your teachers/clinical instructors- some of them are really strict and you can't get away with anything. I had a clinical instructor that even made you wear white socks- if you had nail polish on (even clear) you could get sent home...

I HATE when people say they want to be "natural". OK, I understand if you don't believe in deodorant, that's fine. But nobody gets to the point that a locker room needs to be evacuated just because they don't use deodorant if they are showering daily. She's probably not showering for 3 days in a row and not wearing deodorant and that's why she stinks. You don't smell that bad after 1 shift. Maybe sweaty, but not so much that people need to evacuate rooms.

Oh get this-she runs every morning, so that is why she is so smelly. Evacuation is a must!

My hair goes to my waist, so I throw it in a clip and am thankful I have a scrub cap covering it! Makeup has become less important...I just wanna go to work and do my job then come home and be "sexy" for the hubby!

There are still techs that wear fake nails? I thought this was a huge no-no.

You should tell her that sweat itself has no odor. It is the bacteria on the skin the creates an odor when sweat mixes with it. I mean, even if she runs, there still is no excuse if she showers daily before her run. Your skin has natural flora so of course we have bacteria all the time, even if we shower, but you need some really special super bacteria to cause such distraction. I still think she's just not showering daily and the other nasty bacteria is accumulating. Plus if she's a fan of being "natural", she might not shave her body hair, and as we all know hair, especially in the pits and "down there" traps odor even more.

Here's my take.... and I think 'sexy' may not have been the best choice of words here but I think I see what you are getting at.

I think patients want a nurse that at least looks professional. In the grand scheme of things, the patient only wants a good, competent nurse providing his care BUT perception goes a long way.

If you show up looking like you just dragged your butt outta bed and didn't bother to look fresh for the day, I think you give your patients a sense that if you don't care about yourself, you don't care about the patient.

I'm not saying you have to put on your ball gown and tiara for work but putting forth a little effort goes a long way.

I don't think 'sexy' has a place at work but feeling good about yourself can give you a boost of confidence and that definitely translates to patients.

Haven't you ever noticed someone that just had that air of confidence but when you really look at her she really doesn't have a lot of make up on and her hair may just be in a pony tail but she at least made an effort to look presentable? To me, confidence is attractive and can definitely be 'sexy' and appealing. I also think women are often more appealing and attractive and feminine when they don't try so hard to be all those things. Again, confidence and attitude is WAY more attractive than a lot of done up hair, make up and cleavage.

wear a *light * fragrance....

Please do not wear any type of fragrance. Speaking as a severe asthmatic, for whom any fragrance can cause an attack, the hospital is the last place I want to have to worry about bronchospasm.

Tasteful makeup is always good. Well-fitting, neatly IRONED (I hate wrinkles!) scrubs suggest that you care about your appearance. A previous poster mentioned Koi scrubs. They definitely make some styles that look less frumpy and scrub-like and more like regular clothes. I always get compliments on my Koi scrubs. A well-fitting bra is something that another poster mentioned; I generally find that a good sports bra is the best for the job. It allows me to move quickly without too much bounce, but is supportive enough that nothing is shifting into the wrong place.

As far as "feeling" sexy goes, I'm always sure to be appropriately pedicured and waxed -- nothing worse than a unibrow, and I hate plucking. I frequently get complimented on my eye makeup. It's tasteful, as I mentioned before, but I use a fairly expensive brand, and have learned to apply it well. I am also confident in my skills, which I think makes the biggest difference... confidence is sexy. ;)

well, i used to (and still do) wear neutral pink/ beige polish, keep my nails short, and I wear make up tastefully done- not made up to go clubbing... and if you have a great cut, your hair will show it... dont worry.... you will be fine...wear a good bra, present yourself... wear a *light * fragrance....

Good bra! hahaha so true! And what fragrance do you use? Do a lot of people wear fragrance at work with you guys? Most people I'm around don't use it and I'm too afraid of irritating someone with my perfume, no matter how light I think it is someone else may disagree. I really love the smell of soap on people though.

With the makeup, yeah, I notice the crazy makeup a lot! I do a very light smoky eye with some browns or grays and it's flattering with my eye color but it doesn't look like I'm "done up" to go somewhere.

And speaking of "sexy"...oral hygiene. No need to say more.

really?

What do other professionals do to keep their "sexy"? Not every woman has to wear pretty polish and get dolled up to be sexy.

Haaaa!!! Pretty funny post, though, I have to say.... I think a beautiful woman could work in a mine field, covered in junk, and be sexy. It's all about who you are that makes you sexy.

Wow, here we are talking about makeup/nails etc. but it sounds like people need to get back to the basics- deodorant and oral hygiene? Give me a break.... I think that the main focus is to be an advocate for our patient and keep them safe but I personally feel better when I put a little bit of makeup on! I agree about the perfume thing as well but most of the girls at my job wear scented lotion/body spray. They smoke and spray themselves on the way in....
