How soon can we expect to see cases go down now that Biden is president?

Published

Will there never be another surge of positive cases and deaths now?

The President can’t force people to wear masks, social distance or wash their hands. The President can’t force law enforcement to enforce the laws. The President can model and encourage appropriate behavior. But, in the end, it’s up to all of us to do our part in controlling the virus.

Biden does not take office until January 20, 2021, so there is little he can do as president until then. He is forming his own task force so hopefully there is finally a comprehensive national testing program and a contact tracing system.

I agree that we must all continue to mask, socially distance, wash hands and stay home if we are sick, test positive, or are identified as a close contact.

But if President Biden says it, people will do it.

That contact tracing thing is a joke. At my job, we have to have sheet on every patient's door and everyone who enter the room is suppose to sign that sheet.  Doesn't matter if it is lab, doctor, CNA, or ekg techs. Most of the time people never sign those sheets. I can be off for 4 days and and my name is the last name on the list when I return 4 days later.

Really?  It's not working in NC.  Governor Cooper has been talking about the importance of the 3 Ws for months, with little success.  My wife and I had to drive to another area of NC yesterday and the number of people we saw not doing any of this was surprisingly shocking.

According to a lot of people it was an "election infection" and cases would go down after the election.

So far we set a world record of 130,000 cases.

Here in Florida we had almost 7,000 cases yesterday.  Our rate of positivity in my county yesterday was 8%.

Even though I knew this was crazy I almost hoped it was true that the surge was a political ploy of the Democrats and the fake news media.

We are going to have a surge and we are going to have to deal with it.

I agree.  The 70 million people that voted for Trump in particular aren't going to listen to Biden and magically do as he says.

People already know what to do anyway and Biden doesn't need to tell us again.

The Biden Plan to Combat Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Prepare for Future Global Health Threats been on Biden's website for months.  Expect to see it fleshed out more over the coming weeks.

RESTORING TRUST, CREDIBILITY, AND COMMON PURPOSE

Stop the political theater and willful misinformation that has heightened confusion and discrimination. Biden believes we must immediately put scientists and public health leaders front and center in communication with the American people in order to provide regular guidance and deliver timely public health updates, including by immediately establishing daily, expert-led press briefings. This communication is essential to combating the dangerous epidemic of fear, chaos, and stigmatization that can overtake communities faster than the virus. Acts of racism and xenophobia against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community must not be tolerated.

Ensure that public health decisions are made by public health professionals and not politicians, and officials engaged in the response do not fear retribution or public disparagement for performing their jobs.

Immediately restore the White House National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense, which was established by the Obama-Biden Administration and eliminated by the Trump Administration in 2018.

“We don’t follow contact tracing protocols so contact tracing doesn’t work” is poor logic.

I was referring to contact tracing in the community. Where I work, a local health department, our communicable disease staff and volunteers contact positive cases, identify their close contacts (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) and then notify the contacts to get tested and to quarantine. People who test positive must isolate. Other staff contact all positives and contacts everyday via phone or smartphone app to assess symptoms and that people have what they need to maintain isolation/quarantine. These people work all day, 7 days a week and can barely keep up. The CARES money runs out at the end of the year so I don't what happens then.
