How soon can we expect to see cases go down now that Biden is president?

Will there never be another surge of positive cases and deaths now?

I agree.  I don't know why anyone thinks something magical is going to happen on inauguration day.

100 days of mask wearing.....really?  By the time that 100 says are up, it'll be about 300 days of mask mandate here in Colorado.   We arent any better off then anywhere else.

Just imagine if a clear and large majority of our neighbors had been masking, socially distancing and sanitizing since March. But that is not the case.  There's a large contingent of the American population who have decided that this pandemic is not a thing they should be concerned with and they live in all regions and areas of the country.  It is the noncompliance to public health recommendations that drives the pandemic experience in this country.

I have close relatives in Colorado.  At this point they are angry everytime they are out, because they must be, to see people unmasked and nonchalant about contact with others. Lack of basic mitigation from enough individuals guarantees that the virus will take a toll on the entire community/state/region/nation.

Recent polls say 90% of Americans are wearing masks most of the time.

In my experience,  in the Denver metro area, it's much higher and has been that way since late Spring.

OK

Anywhere that I go in Alaska only maybe 50% of people are wearing masks if they are not required by an establishment.  My son and Niece have a similar experience in their Colorado lives.  When I voted it was roughly half of the voters were masked, here in the interior of Alaska...all the poll workers were. One of them lives in Denver and the other lives outside of the urban sprawl.  My family in Wyoming report similar observations.  They aren't very careful themselves.  She gets tested weekly for her job they don't know anyone who has had covid.  I had a friend die from it this week after a month in ICU, but she died in Toledo.

It's definitely better when is cold.  Most people cover their faces when it's cold.  It's also easier to avoid walking into a stranger's breath cloud when you can see it.

It's nice being retired. I can practice this mitigation without much trouble.  I also get to casually observe lots of people who think that they are mitigating but they really aren't...too many terrible habits and practices which negate the function of the mask and distancing. Public education hasn't been a huge success dieing this pandemic so far.  That might be because of the political influence exerted on the CDC...we'll have to do an investigation to discover why the CDC failed so horribly at this modern challenge.

It is possible to reduce the devastation of this contagion.  It simply takes smart and courageous political leadership and a consistent approach.

I should add, that I'm speaking of indoors where I live.  Understandably, most are not wearing a mask when outdoors or when dining.

tmb:  I am surprised at your conclusion that this is a CDC failure; It is a failure of this particular adminstration to back up the CDC and instead, they vilified them giving ammunition to the just slightly half of our population that think Trump is their representative from Jesus.  He neutered the CDC because it's the only tactic he knows to get these "elites" prostrated at his feet.  I think most people just wanted to keep their jobs, whether for themselves or because of altruism.

I don't disagree with any of that.  But Dr Redfield allowed the CDC to be unduly influenced by the politics.  He tried to play that game and he failed.  Birx tried to play that game and she failed.  Those failures resulted in politicized and manipulated messaging from the CDC, mass confusion and poor mitigation compliance among the public, and state public health professionals taking the heat for that high level failure of leadership.

Trump is the author and driver of this pandemic failure but he's not the only one responsible who should be held accountable. IMV

She was appointed by Pence who recognized her as a good tool because she came from regular Army.  Redfield was also appointed because of his "flexability".  Trump would never have appointed a known strong personality in that role because he had already shown disrespect for the CDC by disallowing the gun violence studies to be done.  So I'm holding HIM responsible for hiring only the feckless.  It would have been great if either one of them had just walked off an published a book.  I'm sure that they thought that they could get him to reason because they were reasonable people.  They didn't see him as a sociopath because those people aren't supposed to rise to power.  But, of course we know differently from House of Cards:)  It cost Netflix a fortune to fire Kevin Spacey but an entertainment company did the right thing - something our Republicans can't.  Even Fauci created a mess by saying early on we didn't need to wear masks.  How better it might have been if he had never said that.

Yep. Putting Pence in charge of the task force was clearly about controlling the messaging.  Pence was the overseer of the propaganda.  He's the fall guy for Trump if there's anything to be accountable for at a later date.  Pence and others would like to benefit from a "just following orders" kind of defense...more of the "I don't/didn't know" line of excuses that we've heard from Trump staff before.

There's no question that Trump should be held to account for his corrupt malfeasance. The accountability shouldn't stop there, is what I'm saying.

Like this attempt to over throw the legitimate election results to install the loser; the fellow that We the People voted against.  They want to usurp the Democratic process. There must be accountability or this could lead to the end of our republic. IMV
