I lost my brother to suicide last week. A friend sent the following to me. I'd like to share it with you all now. RIP.
You gave no one a last farewell,
Nor ever said goodbye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
A million times we'll miss you.
A million times we'll cry.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.
In our hearts you hold a place,
No one else can ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.
We will meet again some day,
I know in a better place.
I thank God He made you my Brother
While you were here on earth.
I've interacted with Brian for 15 years, met face-to-face with him and his family in 2004, attended multiple nursing conventions with him and the staff-- my DH and sons all helped at conventions too. We are having a hard time accepting this news.
A night owl, Brian and I shared many late night conversations over the years about how to improve allnurses, how to promote nursing, then conversations shifted to his family and what activities the children were involved, how he was taking them to sports, vacation plans etc.---very involved father. He and his family will be missed. May his and his wife's family, neighbors and colleagues find comfort in our members words. Allnurses will be remembered as his gift to the nursing community.

Death is difficult to understand when it's expected.
When it's sudden and violent, there are no words.
My condolences to both families, and peace to Brian, his wife and children.
