Wondering if 50 is too old to go to RN school

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work.

Debating on what to do!!

thanx, I just nearly spit out my coffee. NO IT IS NOT!!! (and ya aint gettn any more info outa me re age). ;->

No. Maybe thirty years ago, but new climate regarding age limitations now. Sorry, age can't be the excuse anymore.

my father always says to me It is never to late to go to school.

I am 49 years old and I am in my second year in Nursing school. I love all of the students in my class. They are many years younger than me and have embraced me and we all have fun, so do it and you will see how much fun it is. Good Luck to you

God bless

My mother told me once that a woman who will lie about her age will lie about anything!

I will be 55 in 3 weeks and am the oldest student in my classes and I am so glad I went back; I'll keep growing older so I might as well have my dream fulfilled to show for it:)

I'm a youngster (21) and honestly, I admire anyone who goes back to school after 40. Your strength and drive gives us courage =)

I graduated 2 years ago at age 53. Never too late

I am 53 and have been thinking that I would like to pursue a career in nursing, first as an LPN then.....well who knows.

Nursing was something I had thought about as a career but in the late 60's it was not really an option for men at the time.

I have made some inquiries into community colleges and State Univ in my area (upstate Ny).

I was wondering when you applied to Nursing school and and had graduated 20-30 years ago from High School, how did the school you applied too...did they ask for your High School transcripts? or did they use the entrance exam as a Barometer for admission? Or a combination of things?

The reason I ask is I was not the best student going at that time, but life is a pretty good teacher unto herself.:bowingpur

Your words of encouragement in this forum are great:yeah:!

I await any and all replies......

Thank you.

There's a LOT to be said for life experience!! Go for it!!

I was the oldest graduate in my class in NS...didn't hurt me a bit, not even when appying for work. If anything, it HELPED, I think.

I just turned 55 and I am starting an ASN program in January. I agree with you. I decided it was time to become a nurse since that is what I have always wanted to do.:yeah::yeah:

Nope. Became an LPN in 2006, sit for the RN boards tomorrow. I'm 55.
