Wondering if 50 is too old to go to RN school

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work.

Debating on what to do!!

Heck,,,I was 52 when I went to LPN school,,lol,,,I was one of two 52 year young women in our class and we both did very well. I was fat, used to a desk job and insecure,,lol,,but I put on foot in front of the other and passed my boards and am working at a job I enjoy now. Don't let fear stop youi from reaching for your goals. Youre maturity, self-discipline and life experiences will help yoiu also. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yeah:

I'm turning 50 in 6weeks and from my perspective-YIKES YES it's too old. But you are as young as you feel. We had a woman in her late 50s in my CON back in '86 who did very well. She was a CNA prior to Nursing School and wanted to improve her $$$. I guess my 23 years as an RN had worn me out to the point where I can barely keep up with my mandatory inservices and CEUs.

Depends on how long you think you're going to work. If you're going to work until your 65 and beyond, the investment in money (hopefully your employer will help with this) and time is probably going to be worth it, especially if you can go the community college level. The amount of time it takes depends on the pre-reqs and co-reqs you have to take.

Good luck!

You are never too old to do anything. Go for your dreams!!! Good luck!

there was a LVN student at 65 and graduated.

in our papaer yesterday there was a front page picture and a story of a 76 yr ol man going to RN school here.....so....NO WAY......50 is not to old....

Most people think that you have to do everything when you are a "spring chicken" :clown:...not so...as long as you are alive, well, and willing to learn...then you are right on time. Think about it this way there must be a good reason why you are interested in going forward in your career...it's not a mistake. God bless you! :saint:

57 graduating in a few weeks, have enough years left in me to pay off the

loans I beleive, go for it. It has been a very rewarding endeavor albeit stressful at times.

For me, going to LPN school in my early 30's made a world of difference: I really wanted it, so I worked hard for it. Not so sure I would have been as gung ho when I was fresh out of high school. Pursuing my RN now!

I have a friend she is 55 yo. She spent her 5 years going for her RN. She started taking her prerequisite 5 years ago. Got kicked out of RN 2 yrs ago. Got kicked out of LVN 6 months ago. But you know what she told me that she will go back to school for RN. Since she almost finished LVN and she had few months of RN training, LVN board said that she might be able to challenge LVN Board Exam. And next year, she is planning to do that and go for her RN... I say go for it... I had a nursing instructor who said the same thing......
