  1. Hi 51 here, just finished school 3 months ago, I am working in a LTC facility, I am enjoying it so far and us older woman can out do the young ones any day, I would like to get into oncology, but afraid I will need more education and not sure if I am up to it, being that retirement is right around the corner, but still might go for it.
  2. I was stressing that nursing was not all about butt wiping, I love my residents and each day when I go into to my job, the smiles from each and every one of them makes it all worth while, I am a new nurse and do have alot to learn . Yes I do assessments on my residents, not only there butts but there mental status also.
  3. Very true, and yes I do help my CNA's when time allows, But I was stressing that nursing is not all about butt wiping.
  4. I work in a nursing home and I have never wiped a butt or lifted anyone, they have CNA's that do all that, I just pass pills and do blood sugars and paper work.
  5. Hi, Being a nurse is not as sweet as you would think, I do love it, but hate all the paper work you have and no time with the patients. I have been on my job right at 2 months , the nurses that have been there don't like me because I tryed to do as we were taught not what I see, so far in this two months, one lpn and one cna have lost there jobs because I refused to let them be lazy on there jobs. So watch out and try not to let the older nurses change your ethics
  6. Thanks all that reply, I will be starting back in the spring
  7. HI, And yes it can be done, I worked full time and did lpn school with a husband and teenager along with being 50 yrs old. I am now working as a lpn after gradurating in June. I sometimes wonder how I did it, But it can be done.l Good luck!
  8. thanks everyone, i will look into rn school!!
  9. I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work. Debating on what to do!!
  10. congrats for moving on up from a CNA's alot think they don 't need too,its a big differents I am sure you have learned alot..
  11. Oh MY me too, I believe we all feel the same way out of school, I started my first job 3 weeks ago in a nursing home and all has gone real well, Just make sure you let the other nurses know you just finished school and they well help you, I ask ask ask, they understand! Each day I feel more confident.
  12. Hi, I am a recent gradurate in GA myself, I got into a nursing home 7-3 40 hr week. I am learning alot more than I thought I would. Your right not alot out there for grads without experience. Keep on looking.
  13. Well I feel so much better knowing I am not the only one thinking these things, I have been working for one week and some days I feel ok and other days I feel like I know nothing, But all the nurses do help. When I have a good day all is well. I know I have a long long way to go, but each day will bring something new to me . Good luck
  14. Hi, I received my license in 7 days, which surprised me, start looking for a job before it comes, sometimes it takes time to find a position. congrats!!
  15. Hi, As of 4 weeks ago I passed my state boards and received my license, It took me 4 weeks to get a job after I would say 50 resumes I sent out. Most were on line. What worked for me was getting out and applying in person. I have no experiences, have not worked in 23 yrs and I am 50 yrs old. But I did find a job at a nursing home to start with. Don't expect to get what you want. Good luck!! This is my outlook, if you want something don't stop until u get it.
