Wondering if 50 is too old to go to RN school

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work.

Debating on what to do!!

Specializes in NICU, Psychiatry, UM, CM.

You are never to old to reach a career goal. Go for it.

Moved to the LPN-to-RN forum.

Dude, I've got classmates that are 52+ right now, trust me it's not a problem! Especially since you've already gotten your LPN (Congratulations! :yeah:). I'm not sure about other states, but I believe here in NC you just have to take the last couple semesters of RN school to go from LPN to RN, where here we do Psych and ICU rotations. You've come too far to slow down, don't stop now! :nono:

what ? where? is a 8 month program. I enrolled in one near Washington DC and it is about 12 ++ months..

Specializes in geriatrics, surgery, pediatrics.

You can go through Excelsior.edu and if you have any generals to finish take them through a community college or CLEP classes. Then taking Nursing Class 1, Class 2 is withheld b/c you are an LPN; pay to enroll in the college and work on Nursing Class 3-7 at your own pace. You can do it. Take breaks to "smell the roses and treat yourself" then you'll feel better when you return to your studying. You will do fine; I think the same of myself and I'm 48.

:nurse:You re NEVER to old--iam 55 and in LPN school grad. in june (hopefully) and Iam following my dream --You can do anything you want to do age doesn't count..

Right now I'm in a Nursing program & we just finished Ob & now we're in Peeds. You know, I have felt two old too. And I would say that I'm two old alot at clinical & you know what these young girls have said two me?

You're not old!!! That made me feel so accepted by them. And also, you know it didn't help my case that I wasn't in their class from the gitgo when they started, so it was somewhat difficult to feel they accepted me, but I feel they have.

I call the youngest one all the time, she's 22 has a good head on her shoulders & been talkin with her alot. I say go for it, for age is just a ###. If you feel you want it bad enough, then do it. You only live once.

No way are you too old. There are many people a lot older who are starting out from stratch. You are already a nurse. Think of it as just continuing education! Good luck! :)

You are not too old. I am 49 and just finished LPN to RN school in May. Go for it.:nurse:

Specializes in new.

Thanks all that reply, I will be starting back in the spring

I passed a billboard the other day with a 90 year old woman on it. She had just graduated with her Bachelor's degree and it said "You are never too old". If that ain't motivation to never being too old I don't know what is. I say go for it! Do your thing!

No--

Got my RN at 50.

In grad school now looking at an MSN/FNP in 2010, just ahead of my 57th birthday.

No time like the present! Go for it!
