Venting about classmates with families...
Seems to me they may be trying to live vicariously through you. Just like high school where kids would pick on you because they're jealous. It's aggravating, but you've got it wherever you go. High school "never" ends.

nursing diagnosis?? please help!
Here's how I perceive it: The patient cannot breathe effectively due to the effects that anesthesia has on them. They came to this conclusion by taking the pt's SpO2, and seeing it was The interventions are just watching the characteristics of the breaths and making sure there's nothing more abnormal. Something to think about is, sometimes pt's will naturally have low sats, and it may not be strange for them to be hanging out around the 90-93% range. I've seen a "normal" sat at 88-89%.

Grading scale
I'm in the ADN Program at the local community college, and it's a 7 point scale as well (78=C). But this is a very highly thought of school too. Reminds me of the good'ol high school days

Dosage Calc
Thanks, will do. And good luck on your test tomarrow ^^ We just had our basic calc test for oral meds. I bombed the mg in a grain questions, but still managed to pull through with a 90%. Yea I was dumbfounded when I looked at those formulas for #2. I'll get to that point eventually. Now I'm getting some shuteye for clinicals tomarrow. Take care, and again, GL!

focus assessment/prioritizing
Great Prioritizing! That never occured to me that they wouldn't be yelling if they couldn't breath, lol, but it makes so much sense.

Dosage Calc
I love it when you guys post Med math stuff! It gets me thinking Now, this is coming from a Freshman Nursing Student, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Here's the site to check out: http://www.manuelsweb.com/DoseMcgKgMin.htm Practice the formulas, on this page, and the Answer for 1 should be 7.8 mcg/kg/min. Okay, number 2 is a pain and a half Now I'm basing this off of the "recommended dosage" being the adult recommended dosage. And if that's the case, "No" that is not a safe dose. The safe range would be between .75mg/m2/day and .99mg/m2/day. Here's the link I used. I could be using the wrong formula, so let me know if I did: http://www.manuelsweb.com/ped_dose.htm Hope I helped! And if I'm wrong PLEASE tell me. I want to learn! :bowingpur

Wondering if 50 is too old to go to RN school
Dude, I've got classmates that are 52+ right now, trust me it's not a problem! Especially since you've already gotten your LPN (Congratulations! ). I'm not sure about other states, but I believe here in NC you just have to take the last couple semesters of RN school to go from LPN to RN, where here we do Psych and ICU rotations. You've come too far to slow down, don't stop now!
