Wondering if 50 is too old to go to RN school

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work.

Debating on what to do!!

I agree, go for it!!!! I was in class with mostly older ladies. Shoot for the moon girl, you can do it....it is NEVER too late and you are NEVER too old. I hope you do it!

Go!!!!!!! for it I am a 52 y/o male LPN/ Flight paramedic who has decided to go back and get my RN

I have a lady in my year and shes 63 years old (im in london) so why not go for it

Go for it! My Aunt is pushing 60 years old and doing it. She is in the LPN program right now and the smartest one in her class, the 20 something year old students go to her for help. Her main goal is to become an RN. It is never to late to start a career.

Absolutely! I'm a few days shy of 45, and I'm 1 class short of having my ASN-RN through Excelsior College. Look at it this way ... would you rather work 15 more years with more money and more respect? Of course you would. Because honestly, I've been a LPN in a hospital on a med/surg floor for 6 years, and physically there is no difference in the amount of work I do compared to a RN, and yet I get paid approximately $8 an hour less than a RN with 6 years experience. Go for it!

I posted to this thread way back in December, and it's still growing.

Since then I worked my first year as an LPN at age 55, completed the rest of my pre-reqs, and started the rest of the program to complete my ADN, which, barring any bumps in the road, should be at age 56.

Age shouldn't even enter into your thought. Many of my classmates are in their late 40's and they just completed their LPN training, also. I AM devoting the next 9-10 months of my life to nothing else, but as I told myself in the PN program, "How BAD do you want it?" From the looks of things, pretty bad.

Go for it. j

50 is not old at all. A women in my class was 69 going back to nursing school. As long as you are young at heart and have a passion for nursing you will be fine.

I'm 48..just started the Bridge Program a couple of weeks ago...got braces on my teeth this past summer...so God willing, by Dec '10..I'll graduate from college, get my braces off and then I'll have to go back to acting like an adult. :paw:

I'm so happy I found this thread!! :kiss Just the source of inspiration I needed!!
