Wondering if 50 is too old to go to RN school

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work.

Debating on what to do!!

My mother-in-law just turned 51 in January, and also started an LPN program in San Diego during the same month! It can be accomplished!!

:flowersfo Hi, is this any help or encouragement I been an LPN for 4 years and doing the transitional program and since I graduated 20+ years ago I have to repeat both A&P's (1&2) but nevertheless I dont care how long will take me I will finish. Iam in my mid-fifties. Go for it, you will be sorry later on. Disregard any negative comments and going foward at your own pace, its my advice:pumpiron:

50 is not old at all!! I am 50 and finished with LVN school last August and just took the NCLEX....waiting for the result. I am definitely continuing with my education and become a RN. I am excited!!!!!!!!!:dncgcpd:

You are never to old to realize your dreams I am 46

Specializes in Clinic, Travel Meds, Acute Clinic.

I am not sure what you decided . . . but one day you will still be 50, 52, 54, 60, 70, etc. Would you much rather been an RN or LPN at those ages? Go for it . . . I am!

No your never too old. I used to have such high expectations about myself, I wanted to have my BSN by the time I was 25 but after working with wonderful nurses I slowed down my pace. I graduated with my LPN @22 and waited for awhile to go back for my RN her @28. Some of the best nurses are older than me, I feel they are more confident and smarter. I have one particular brillant lady who was a teacher and went back to school for RN when she was 60, she is one of the fastest, intelligent, confident woman I have ever met. Don't think you can @50. YOU CAN!!!! :redbeathe

Thanks for this forum..Me too, I am 51 years old and have just enrolled in a pre-req for nursing. I am a male and I don't care what people say because of my age. Thank you people for all your comments, it really inspires me to move on.

Too old at 50? I think not!! I am between 47 and 50 and I just graduated from an ADN program (RN). It took me three years to do my pre-reqs, but I kept at it. Yes, the nursing program was rough, but I persevered and so can you!

Specializes in Acute care obstetrics.

Your feedback made up my mind, I have worked as an acute care obstretical LVN for 23 years, and have most prereqs for RN done. I am 56 and plan to finish my studies despite my age--it has now become a personal goal instead of a career goal.

Good for you girl. I will be praying for you:yeah:
