In the interest of keeping this thread alive, I encourage nurses who are new to correctional nursing to return and post suggestions, advice, warnings, critique, about their own fresh on-the-job training that they now are wiser to, won't repeat and will know to be aware of. Safety is priority, and The Drowning of a Duck serves well to comprehend the complexities of their (inmates) manipulation. It supports my foundational belief that to err on the side of paranoia, as far as inmates' intentions and agenda, is in the best interest of everyone.

Sticking to the basics of no medication given without an order, that would have been my response. The fact that you don't know what the cream was is also basis that a nurse may not apply/administer an unknown substance. If a nurse finds themselves making saged remarks or comments that could be the basis for being written up, that is a late flag to check their attitude and perhaps reconsider where they are working. Inmates are deserving of professional nursing care and non-judgmental interaction.

Too old at 50? I think not!! I am between 47 and 50 and I just graduated from an ADN program (RN). It took me three years to do my pre-reqs, but I kept at it. Yes, the nursing program was rough, but I persevered and so can you!

Me: new grad RN. The homework continues: checking employers and positions on-line, then came here to :nurse:allnurses:nurse: where there is always an answer. Invariably, I find you, Daytonite, with the consummate answer. You are a diamond, ever strong for the nurse in need, and of the finest grade.

For those of you whom have posted study guides, links, and other saveable information, I thank you for your time and wish you were there when I come to the hospitals to do my clinicals. Though you may not receive a personal and direct thanks to your postings, please know that there are many others that feel the same :balloons: I am at the end of my first semester in the ADN program, and I know there are many more mountains to climb. The comforting guidance of contributing members here ensure I will find an answer and so I'll be back, again and again.

tvcc is trinity valley community college. campuses for nursing are primarily in kaufman (tx) but also in terrell. palestine is the main campus, outside of nursing. about 45 minutes to an hour east-southeast of the metropolis dallas. excellent staff and instructors

i took the teas test last week. we took it on-line and received our results at the computer we took it on in less than 3 minutes. :balloons: my school has this service through ati. ratios and metric are where i lacked, but my overall score was quite satisfactory. i signed up for a group application the next day and had my panel interview 2 days post test. the preparatory questions posted on one of these forums were quite valuable. i simply read through them and paused on each, it was quite effective.
