A day in the life of a new LPN (sorry, long)
Yeah trying getting pulled to an unfamiliar unit and having to pass meds and do treatments on 43 residents. CNA's giving you attitude. unit is messy...residents are a pain in the ass. You have to ask the regular nurse upfront..who needs a BS and who gets insulin so all that stuff is on your cart. I wish i just had 23 residents..lol some floors are nothing but trachs and feeding tubes and you will have to do all 43 by yourself..meds n treatments. You will get your time management intact.

New grad needs employment advice
When I first graduated I just got all the places rounded up on a sheet of paper with both main #'s and fax#'s for HR. Faxed my resume to all of them and about 2 days later the calls were rolling in.

Crushing meds individually?
Your instructor is correct in doing it this way. Some teachers like to do it together to save time. When you hit the real world there will be nurses crushing them altogether but only do it the correct way when the state is there. Some meds you have to give seperately.. some supplements can be really pasty.

Anyone who got into DCCC 2008 program, HELP!
the requirements on the Net test to be considered for the program are as follows. Math 60% Reading comprehension 70% and overall composite has to be 65%. I was told the composite is an average percentage of the Reading and Math combined. Good Luck to you both. Sweetie24 just study before you go. I think the test is on a computer.

Help! I'm having serious difficulty adjusting to LPN school
Yes be strong!!!!! you will get so used to the BS. People are going to gossip until the day we leave this world hun. As long as you stay focused on what you are there for and dont get involved in petty things you will be okay. Yeah they have harsh rules about eating or drinking in class..just take some water...they cant deny you that. You will encounter different characters everywhere you go..even when you go to work in your field. I have been through this same adjustment phase just like you and thought I was going to burst. Just always be friendly and dont ever let anyone think they got the best of you. If people talk about you...SO WHAT! Focus on those books and tests lol. Always think of graduation day...that seems to help too. Even if you find someone in particular or even the instructors to be annoying...just dont say anything you would regret. Silence is golden...it is okay to make suggestions maybe but never get carried away or come out of character...big brother is watching(thats what they called the coordinator) all that side talking people do in class just stay focused on the teacher..communicate at lunch time lol. I was always quiet but my ears were open. Good Luck...remain calm and peaceful. Nothing wrong with a little prayer...if thats your thing to do. I always did it and it got me through.
