  1. Wow!!!! Thank you so much sparksmar!! Your advice is so appreciated and I will definitely make note of it and use it daily. I know without a doubt that your words will be extremely helpful to me. Thanks!!
  2. I am getting ready to start as a corrections nurse and am wondering if you all have any advice when starting? A little background on me. I am a new RN, but have been working as a LPN for a year doing skilled nursing/home care for critical peds (trach/vent kids). I am used to being in emergent situations and autonomy is something I use everyday, but this is a huge change from what I am used to. I am familiar with the corrections environment as my husband has worked in the facility I will be working in for 10+ years. I know inmates can be manipulative and I want to try to avoid falling for it. Also, anytime you start a new job there is a few weeks when you are trying to learn the ropes and the flow of things. I am worried about being taken advantage of and sticking out during this time. Any advice on how to make the adjustment easier is appreciated. Thanks!
  3. You all have been a ton of help.....Probably more than you know! Thanks!!
  4. Yes, IV piggy back. I also can't see a care plan for it. this is why I am begging for help. I asked my instructor and she said "that is an easy care plan" Ha Ha yeah right!
  5. I am currently an LPN and am in my RN year of school, I have an assignment to write a care plan for IVPB with 3 goals and 3 nursing interventions. I feel like I am normally really good at care plans, but for some reason this one has got me stumped. I am hoping some of you might have ideas. I can't figure out if I am having a hard time with it because my brain has officially quit on me or if it is just a hard topic. Although, I have looked it up in my NANDA book with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  6. First, take a deep breath!! I just finished my first year of nursing school and care plans were very hard for me at first. Then, one day I realized they were only hard because I was making them hard by over thinking them. Everyone tells you they are hard so they must be..... I literally got to where I could do a care plan in under an hour by not over thinking it. I always got 100% on them as well. I use the book Nursing diagnosis manual isbn: 13:978-0-8036-2221-0 This book helped me a lot. start with the diagnosis then fill in the goals. Don't obsess over the medical dx, although it can be good when used as a r/t part of your dx. think more about what that medical dx does to the patient. This will help you come up with a nursing dx. Hope this helps! Just breath and take a step back. Care plans are only as hard as you make them... :)
