I just gradurated in june of this yr as an LPN, Would love to go on to RN school, but not sure because of my age. Does any one know anything about this bridge program LPN to RN and how long it takes and if you can do this on line in one yr. I have my first job as a LPN in a Nursing care facility full time, Just wondering if I should take the time and money and move forward when I have maybe 15 yrs to work.
Debating on what to do!!
No, 50 is not too old. I was a nurse years ago (LVN). I decided to go back into the field at the age of 55.
I just re-took my NCLEX on Monday and waiting here anxious as can be for the results. I studied like crazy and now pray and pray that I passed.
Go for it, do not let anything, especially your age get in the way.
This post brought tears to my eyes. I will be 50 in June and I had started going back to school 6 years ago for the nursing program when a tragedy struck the family. I had to leave school unfortunately because I couldn't think straight and have thought about going back again to finish up. I have felt beat down badly by life and age. As I sat here with my coffee this morning at my computer, I had randomly typed the question "Is 50 TOO OLD to go back to nursing school?" And WOW! I found allnurses.com and it really touched my heart. I have been encouraged but have been through so much that my concentration might be some what lacking when trying to study. I am hoping to get up the courage I need to take that step AGAIN. Thanks for the encouraging posts on this site : )!
I'm 50 and doing well in school. Something else you said, that you "have maybe 15 years to work;" a lot of people do not retire at age 65 anymore and in fact for people our age, we cannot collect SS in full until we're 67. By then, with the way the economy is, who knows!? You might want to keep working, become a nursing instructor or do home care part time well into your 70's, you just never know. Do what you want and never let age be a barrier.
I agree, whenever I am out shopping and see little grannies working at a grocery store, etc, I think I will be much better off for having my RN, even if I do graduate when I am 51! All the best to you!
I just turned 54 a couple of weeks ago and I just got my acceptance letter today to get my prereq's done starting this fall.
So if things pan out right I will graduate in 2011 as LPN and 2012 as Rn, pay off my student loans by the time I am 71 and will be doing my rounds in my specially made walker complete with water fountain, chart table, med cart and GPS so I don't get lost all rolled into one.
50 too old?? Nawwww
