Incident reports in nursing homes
I just started working at a nursing home and sometimes I'm unsure of what kind of situations warrant an incident report. I know skin tears, bruises and falls are automatically considered incidents. But what if a resident is helped to the ground to avoid a fall? Is this an incident or something that just needs to be documented in their chart? Does anyone have any tips on time management in LTC? I get so wrapped up in meds and treatment that I sometimes don't manage to get all my charting done.

Feel like a reject.
Let's keep our fingers crossed. Something will come up for all of us!! Funny thing is I thought there was a shortage of nurses?

First Time to work in a LTC facility,,,
I worked in a SNF straight out of school and only lasted a month. It was hard but I really kick myself now for not sticking it out. Now I'm stuck doing home health and am trying hard to get back into LTC. You definitely learn more in LTC. Just be confident and know that it will take you a while to get used to it!:wink2:

Feel like a reject.
I've been an LPN a year now and am currently doing home health which I am finding quite boring. It's really easy but I feel like I'm not learning anything new.Plus if your patient is sick that means no pay while they're in the hospital. And if a family doesn't need you anymore good luck with getting another case! It's the same routine everyday. I'd love to work in a nursing home or clinic but I've been sending out applications and not getting called back. I know I'm competing with experienced nurses out there. I'm super frustrated. Are other new nurses having difficulty finding jobs like me?

Is it just me or is everyone a little slow when they start out in LTC
Thank you all for your responses. I might just reconsider LTC afterall.

Is it just me or is everyone a little slow when they start out in LTC
I'm considering getting a job in LTC. I tried it once before and didn't last very long because I just couldn't cope with the work load. I'm trying other avenues but they just don't pay as well as LTC. I'm mainly concerned about my speed. I'm not very fast like other nurses and a med pass for about 30 patients takes me more than 2 hours! ALFs give you a ridiculous number of patients like 60 or so. I'm confused. Am I likely to get better at an LTC with time and practice?
