Unvaccinated: Indefensible

The choice to not take the COVID vaccine I feel is not defendable. The facts are that 99% of hospitalizations/deaths due to COVID are unvaccinated patients currently. This has caused a more severe strain on a already extremely stressed hospital staff, shortage of equipment and services, injury and death from other causes due to delay of care and suffering of everyone involved in the hospitalized COVID patient among other issues. Virologists report delta and other strains are accelerated and created due to the numbers of unvaccinated people in the US. The fact that vaccination rates have only increased about 20% since July with the information available is appalling, while there are 130k new infections daily in the US. This should not be a personal or individual choice and appears due to unfounded anxiety, medical or religious exception and or politics.

Human beings are indefensible.

We are too codependent on each other, our need to be served, and inability to be self sufficient to do the one thing that would really get rid of the virus which is for EVERYONE to stay home for weeks and let it die off.

That's right I said it. And you probably think it's crazy.

Because how would the hospitals stay open?  How would police and fireman stay at work? Who would keep the power on for Netflix? Who's going to make the caramel machiattos?

So we require drugs, as usual, to solve all the problems we create for ourselves.

During the first lock down many small business owners lost their businesses and every thing they had worked a lifetime for. I am all for masking even though I hate wearing one. I am also fully vaccinated. What I did notice is that I did not catch my annual URI which used to hang in for a month or so.

"I agree but refuse to "get into it" with coworkers because I don't believe I will change their minds. If anything, they push back harder. I have to maintain a decent working relationship and atmosphere for my patients. So I bit my tongue."

This!! Is this nursing saying these things in front of patients??? Seriously, how can hospital administration all over our country allow such discussions in the workplace??? What is wrong with people? Maybe she is mentally ill?

So that we are clear,

The majority of people here are in agreement that your choice to refuse a medical procedures is indefensible.

Is it ethical to force people to take medication or to receive medical treatment?

I have only read page one of the comments on this post.  You all are scaring the crap out of me.  Are these conspiracy theorists and believers actually licensed and called professionals and taking care of us!?  I am retired and will need care at some point (72 yoa).  These posts make me KNOW that I will ask every one of my caregivers if they are vaccinated, because that will indicate to me that they care about their fellow workers and their patients (family, friends and neighbors as well).  If they are unvaccinated, they are swallowing this craziness whole and I don't want that kind of craziness near me.  They are also extremely selfish and only care about themselves.

Yikes.  So much hyperbole in place of argument.

Yes, people living in communities and societies depend upon one another to create safe and productive environments for living, learning and life pursuits. We depend upon others to follow simple and common rules to make us all safer and healthier. Rules like washing your hands, stopping at traffic lights or wearing a mask during a pandemic.

I don't understand the point that you must believe you are making about police and firefighters working.  They are working short staffed because their unvaccinated staff get sick and sometimes die from covid.

Humans have utilized vaccines to control the illness, suffering and death from contagious disease your entire life.  For some reason, social conservatives have decided that the Trump vaccines aren't worth taking.  Do you wonder why?

I'm coming up blank - which letter are you referring to?

It looks like an X, but is pronounced Chi. Delta looks like a triangle but is pronounced Delta….at least it’s towards the end of the list..because that would not fly calling it the same spelling for the name of the Chinese President….

There were alot of things I rolled my eyes at when I was in nursing school, I felt that many of the topics were "touchy feely hippie nonsense." So imagine my surprise when I end up being the RN doing this but it seems many folks need a reminder.

There are 4 main principles that are part of the nursing code of ethics. They are:

1. Autonomy: Preserving patient autonomy... Support and encourage the vaccines, don't force mandates down people's throats, every patient deserves to say how their treatment is going to go and whether or not they receive a treatment.

2. Beneficence: Actions guided by compassion. There seems to be a severe lack of compassion in this article and thread

3. Justice: Fairness and equality in our treatment of patients. Just because a bad decision was made does not mean you get to treat a patient worse than any other patients.

4. Non-maleficence: electing interventions and care that will cause the least amount of harm to achieve a beneficial outcome. Advocate for the vaccine, strongly suggest that patients get it.

Oops, I double checked that alphabet chart and the spelling of the persons first name. (Never trust closed captioning) Mu, Nu, Xi…need new names soon-hoping it won’t get that far…

Its over, quit or get the vaccine.  You won't be able to log jam HR or the courts its just too deadly a virus and the current administration will get ahead of that.

our docs no longer write ANY exemptions except documented severe allergy to any vaccine components.

If we are to remain a free country... we will continue to identify Americans are able to make their own choices... when I became pregnant I did not abort my baby... many people choose to abort their babies... you choose... I choose... that is why millions of people all over the world want to come to America... we are free!  we are free to make our own choices... we are free to take or NOT TAKE THE JAB... and, when you say others around you not taking the jab make you sick, then, you are saying the vaccine you are taking is ineffective... if those around me do not take the flu vaccine and I become sick... is it because I did not take the flu vaccine?  or, is it because those around me did not take the flu vaccine... THINK!!  We do not live by fear.  We live by faith in the One who died for us and gives us a hope and a future.  A future of hope.  Whether or not we are vaccinated is our hope of freedom.  We continue to walk in freedom whether or not we choose to take the vaccine.  Personally, I am in the ICU on a weekly basis... are you saying those who are pronounced dead WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE VACCINE should hold the unvaccinated responsible for their DEATH?  Why is this vaccine not effective enough against this disease???? THINK!!  If your vaccine was effective, you would not need to wear a mask, or WORRY that I AM NOT TAKING THIS VACCINE.

I decline the vaccine...I am in the ICU on a weekly basis... pronouncing people who have been vaccinated.. it doesn't work
