Heard on broadcast news + CNN:
6/23/20 -Texas Reports All-Time Daily High: 5,489 New COVID-19 Cases. Houston hospital ICU's full.. Texas Chrildrens hospital will now admit adults. Change in tone from Governor Abbott --who's high risk for catching virus himself
QuoteAs Texas sees its highest numbers of positive tests and hospitalizations, Gov. Greg Abbott advised residents of the state to stay at home.

Quote"The hospitalization rate is at an all-time high," he said. "The coronavirus is serious. It's spreading in Brazos County, across the entire state of Texas."
Hope my Texas colleagues have enough PPE!

You're right about Fauci, though.

Yeah so Boston's got a population density much more like NYC than Houston, so what works in Boston may not apply over here.

It's more like The Manchurian Candidate movie, but in that case the leftists actually served our country in the military before becoming brainwashed Commies seeking to undermine our freedoms.

All you are doing is enlarging the platform.A while back this forum had contentious subjects, and there was some degree of hostility, for the most part there was healthy debate.
But this is a new forum, in which every thread on this subject is redirected by a very small group. The discussion has nothing to do with nursing, facts, science, logic have been replaced by alternative facts.
When you respond rationally, all you are doing is hanging a target for pot shots from those who have reset the tenor of this forum.
You’re right.
You’re absolutely, totally right.
I miss the old AN. Yes, there were quite a few threads that had themes of hostility interwoven... but there was logic on both sides. You stepped away and learned from a different perspective. Might not always agree, but you could understand and see it. Sometimes you even adjusted the view.
I’m tired. I’m tired of the idiocy of the select few that impacts the many. It’s almost amusing when one cries, “tyranny!” or “freedom” when it’s so damn simple. Clearly one doesn’t understand the price of freedom, or realize true tyranny. I’m heartbroken when I think of those I lost - a coworker, familiar patients - and frustrated that I worked so hard in a COVID unit ... only to be told I’m “afraid” and to “hide.” I go out every day, to work or to run errands, to live my life, wearing my mask so that others may live - it’s second nature at this point. Others do the same so that me, an immunocompromised former cancer patient, may live life as well. And here, in the NE - WE ARE OPEN.
Such stupidity, yet here I am ... trying to address it like it will matter. It hasn’t yet, and I doubt it will. You’re right. So absolutely right. So I am done. The majority of posters here have common sense, critical thinking and I’m sure are excellent nurses - and that’s what counts.

PS: If the virus is less virulent and scientists, physicians, nurses, and RTs have learned better ways to treat it we need to decrease it's spread because people are still dying today. And too many ICUs are full, staff is exhausted, and human life matters.

Bear in mind that Texas has about 9 million more people than New York.
The Coronavirus is not as virulent as it was.
I think you also don't know how the virus or surges work. Let's look at the number of deaths in Texas 3 weeks from now.

It is not clear at all that the poster you are engaging is actually a health professional. The thinking and statements seem inconsistent with college education in the sciences and more consistent with a political agenda. I believe that it's best to deprive such accounts of the attention and disruption they seek. The moderators will step in when the reaction to the lack of attention violates TOS.
WOW!, this devolved into "we don’t agree with your perspective, therefore you lack education and rationality" real quick. If we are going to go down the road of questioning @A Hit With The Ladies ‘s education and capacity to understand the medical sciences maybe someone with a PhD or MD/DO who is fully qualified to offer said opinion should interject.

I see many using masks, though not as many as should be. I am retired recently because of pulmonary fibrosis - I never planned on retiring this early but was foolish in not staying home with sick days longer when I had multiple pneumonias and have a tremendous amount of scarring. I spent my entire professional life working and teaching in acute care. You know what? I am not ready to lay down and die so that someone else can walk around with out a mask! I am complying with all the wisdom directed my way by experts in infectious disease but am insulted by comments such as "they were going to die anyway." I am cross because the covidiots think they are the most important people in the world!
You'd have every right to be. I'm appalled that the two or three people consistently promoting this tripe are apparently free to do so despite it being a professional nursing site.
Even the elderly who died from Covid would likely have lived another 10 years had they not been infected, largely d/t the result of an authorative administration concerned only on it's re-election prospects and unsympathetic public who refused to do what needed to be done (ie, social distance and mask wearing)
17 hours ago, A Hit With The Ladies said:The disease is going to spread no matter what. Because we don't have immunity yet. What are you going to do? Have quarantine every single time there's a "wave" for decades on end? Enough is enough.
it spread because of the political calculations and indifference of a failed administration, and because people refused to do what they needed to do, largely because they were getting a mixed message.
Obviously it didn't "have to" (or whatever you're spouting) as Canada did what we would have done if we still had President Obama or President Bush and snuffed it right out. Along with many other nations.

The same poster on multiple occasions has advocated for the use of Decadron on mildly symptomatic and early stage COVID patients; it demonstrates that the poster is either ignorant of the actual data or maliciously giving dangerous advice.
And, I am qualified to offer the above opinion.

Well, on a positive side, at least he didn't advice drinking bleach, like his idol. ??

First off, the very notion that health experts like Dr. Fauci (who has been in his role since the Regan administration) are all of a sudden is making things up to get media attention is ludicrous. If you believe this, honestly, you should get yourself evaluated.
Second, Texas has a larger population than New York but the population density in NY is nearly 3.5x that of TX.
Third, New York has zero to do with the concerning numbers in Texas right now.
