People with asthma in England fear being harassed and denied services for not being able to wear a mask

Millions go back into lockdown around the world

Mask mandates in Western countries! Can you believe it? In places like Iran they have "morality police" who harass women wearing clothing deemed too 'un-Islamic' and not covering their hair. In North Korea the government mandates you get a haircut from an approved list of 'socialist hairstyles'. Leftists here in the U.S. surely at licking their lips at the prospect of harassing those who don't conform to the mask national dress code.

Me too-and I wear the N95 mask my whole shift and continue to self isolation otherwise. They are not requiring them to wear as severe of a mask-if I can wear it-they can wear one-otherwise stay home. Sorry, no sympathy from this nurse.

Likewise, I believe those who are that scared of Corona should themselves stay at home rather than try to impose an Iran-style diktat for everyone else to wear masks. This is a free country (as long as the leftists don't take control of it).

Living in a society means limiting personal freedom for the benefit of the larger group. If you want total freedom go live in the woods by yourself.

Seriously, do you whine about drunk driving laws like this? Laws about right of way and which side of the street to drive on? Are you rallying against city ordinances on when you can put garbage out for pick up?

If you want to benefit from social cooperation and coordination you have to be willing to participate in it yourself. If you want 100% freedom, go away. America has literally never guaranteed any of its citizens pure, unrestricted autonomy and freedom.

With personal rights come personal responsibility.

IMO people are too busy whining about the former that they forget the latter

When they start advocating for women to wear the hijab or niqab you may have cause for concern.

Big difference between a face mask and the compulsory coverings for women in middle eastern countries

Good lord, it’s a face mask, nothing comparable to Iran. I myself do not sit on the ‘left’ side of the fence. This has to do with public health and I wish people would stop politicizing it.

I keep trying to ignore and not take your bait but it continues to blow my mind that one would compare things like mandating "socialist hairstyles" and place that in the same boat as temporarily wearing a mask to protect others in society.

Feeling like you can't breathe when you wear a mask may be real, but it is also a psychological symptom that can be overcome with gradual exposure and intentional relaxation or CBT, like other real experiences that have a psychological origin.

Asthmatics may be more prone to this psychological symptom as they are more likely to have had traumatic experiences in which they felt they couldn't breathe. We can be sensitive to that without pretending that it's hypercapnia.

If we pretend that this is hypercapnia, we are actually making it worse for people who need our support to overcome their fear.

I have to admit I would rather hear all sides of a discussion, no matter how absurd. When it is too far out the box, it's just entertainment.

I can't believe, as a nurse, you even brought it up.

He's not a nurse. I dealt with people like him A LOT in another profession I had, they politicize an idea, and they think they're being some kind of hero by going to a source of it posing as one of them. I'm willing to bet that describes him perfectly.

Except for maybe 5 posts saying he's in "NP school" or saying he worked in an ICU then ended up in psych, every single post is a political post about this virus. A nurse came to a nursing forum to talk politics about covid19, specifically to just relentlessly attack the liberals? No, this MO SCREAMS trucker. There's actually one in particular, from Houston TX, who posts EXACTLY like he does. I'd be willing to bet every dollar that I have right now that this guy never actually worked 1 day in healthcare. I've seen this exact behavior enough times to know to seriously doubt who he says he is.

There are mandates right here in Western countries! Can you believe it? You are MANDATED to wear pants in public places! Silly old health codes, you know--wouldn't want to spew all those nasty bacteria by scooching across the booth at your local burger joint or by brushing up against the produce at your grocery store! Still, leftists right here in the good ole U.S. of A. are surely licking their lips at the prospect of harassing those who don't conform to the national dress code by refusing to wear pants!

(By the way, wear a mask while you are at it, too--I hear there is something going around.)
