...as we head into one of the hardest weeks of the year... The last few days before Winter Break.
When Junior High kids turn into 5 year olds...
When 3rd graders are dealing with their waivering belief in a mystical being bringing toys throughout the world...
When High Schoolers are stressing over finals...
When Teachers have had more than enough and are letting students come to the health office for any minor and/or imagined thing...
When everyone who hands out gifts to school personnel forgets that the nurse exists...
May the spirit of the season stay strong!! Just a few days left and then a couple weeks off (what I feel confident saying is one of the biggest perks of this job!!)
Love you all and our own little corner of AN!!
Dear God, I don't remember it being this bad last year. Maybe I still had nursing students helping me at this point last year..
I'm only bought at my main school starting Tuesday each week. This day has given me all the thoughts of leaving my job and never coming back. It doesn't help that lately I have been considering if I really want to stay in school nursing forever.. but that's a different post.
Today seems to be the official day for teachers to gift and try new lotions and open candles in the office adjoining mine. It's like Bath and Body Works in there. I left my purse and epi pen in the other building so now I'm worried about needing to use stock epi if I react to one of those new scents. I think I'm safe now since they are heading to their rooms.
And just when I was sure I would snap before the end of this last day before break, a student walks in with something behind her back. Im scared, pretty sure its something alive or dripping with blood, instead its a Christmas gift!!!! She looks at me and says " I love you Miss CAS1in72, Merry Christmas" This from a family that I am 100% certain can not afford to be giving gifts to people like me BUT there goes my heart and the tears. Its the little things that make this job worth it
Merry Christmas to all my fellow School Nurses who understand that this job is something you just cant explain to anyone else!!!!
Today has been A DAY! We had a serious fainter, a fake allergic reaction, a real allergic reaction, a kid who got poked in the eyes, I found out one of my littles is in ICU, and one of our staff member's precious chubby little babe is in the hospital too. Is it a full moon or just a full day before winter break?
