  1. Dear God, I don't remember it being this bad last year. Maybe I still had nursing students helping me at this point last year.. I'm only bought at my main school starting Tuesday each week. This day has given me all the thoughts of leaving my job and never coming back. It doesn't help that lately I have been considering if I really want to stay in school nursing forever.. but that's a different post.
  2. That is a good point and something I have not considered (unexcused absence if I am not the one sending them home). I do worry about attendance, and with frequent flyers I will comment on how many days they have already missed this year, but that doesn't really matter to elementary schoolers. Will make more of a point to mention it to parents.
  3. True. I have tried the "I will call your mom after you go back to class" thing, and sometimes it works but sometimes they are not having it. Thinking I need to be more stern. I did that last week for the snowflake with the cut that she was insisting on going home for, she finally did leave my office crying. I felt bad for making her cry (didn't yell or anything, not sure exactly what made her cry besides the fact that I wasn't letting her go home), but I knew there was no way I would feel good about her going home because of a tiny cut.
  4. I'm very new to this, so maybe I am handling it wrong. I have several frequent fliers, and some of them will not listen to me when I try to explain that they need to stay in school, that there is no need to go home (minor pain in leg, sniffles but no other symptoms, a tiny scratch on the finger that looks fine, things like that). They will insist I call their parents, and about half of the time the parent is able to convince them to stay. The other half, they immediately say they will come pick them up. It really makes me sad that kids are missing class time for no good reason. Any advice?
  5. Aww, looks like I'm at the uncool table today. I have some red on my shirt, does that count? Also I don't think we're supposed to wear red at this school, hoping since it is a picture of a UK phone booth and it is not the whole shirt that it will be okay.
  6. Hey everyone! I'm new to school nursing too! Was going to start my own thread but saw this one :) I have also been lurking these forums for quite a while, became obsessed with the idea of school nursing during my pediatric rotation in nursing school. Now I am a new-grad nurse and a school nurse! It is quite an experience, haha.
  7. Hello! I am about to enter my final semester of nursing school (YAY!) and I just received part of my precepting placement, which will be in IV therapy. I want to prepare myself before I start my preceptorship, and I was told that I will be starting many IV's and helping manage PICC and Central lines. I've never even learned to start an IV yet, but aside from that skill, I'm wondering what kinds of concepts I should review before I start? And what is a typical day like as an IV/infusion nurse? I'm sure it varies for everyone, but I would like to get an idea. Thank you!
  8. Thank you, yes that did help :)
  9. Does that mean that our clinical group will change every semester? Or will we be with the same people for the whole program?
  10. Yes, I think the skills labs are only for the first 2 tuesdays, but it looks like there is also open lab on thursdays.
  11. Looks really hectic! I was hoping to have Fridays off but this might be better. Anyone else in section 5?
  12. Has anyone gotten any emails? I got an email from a professor saying "Hello Section 5" so I guess that means I'm in clinical section 5 at Sutter General :). Still not registered for classes though.
  13. Are you guys doing the paper and ebook bundle? I work better with actual books but the ebook bundle is so much cheaper and I'm wondering if I'll get used to the ebooks. Hmm
  14. Okay I made one :) It's called Sac State BSN class of Fall 2016
