Minneapolis School of Anesthesia 2021
No clinical questions! It was comfortable and laid back. It was in person so you meet with some of their professors and directors in a panel interview. They asked some behavioral questions, like how would you respond to negative feedback from a preceptor, or what is a time you made a mistake and how you responded. They went over their program costs first and some other tidbits about the program before jumping into the questions. They want to know a bit about your life outside of work too, like they asked about what my hobbies were and about my husband. Relax and be yourself! Always so much easier said than done!

That is my understanding! I took a biochemistry before applying but it sounds like you can do the classes after acceptance to the program.

CRNA masters program versus doctorate
I settled on the master's program and begin this fall. I don't see myself teaching, but there are some short completion programs I may go back for later just in case. Thank you both for the advice! It helped more than you know ?

CRNA masters program versus doctorate
Hi all! I have been accepted into a masters CRNA program and a DNAP program. I am trying to decide between the two. I would only graduate one semester sooner from the master’s and the DNAP is around 20 grand more. What are your thoughts? Will it make a difference in the workplace later if I have a masters versus DNAP? Limit my job options if I go with the masters? Logistically the masters program is better because my husband could keep his job and we wouldn’t have to move out of state. But if it is absolutely worth it to just get DNAP right off the bat, we are willing to do it.

Night shift brain and I totally blanked on asking how many they are interviewing! Good question though. The dates that I can remember are Feb 3, 4, 16, 23, and 24. They were a couple more dates mixed in there though.

Minneapolis School of Anesthesia 2020
Hello! I took an online medical biochemistry course out of the UNE. They have lots of online courses that are relatively cheap and it’s on a rolling basis, so a class starts around every 2 weeks. I’ve also taken classes at Winona State online since that is near me. Depending on if you are in MN those are pretty cheap as well. It can be a little competitive to get into to some of their grad classes because they are the same ones the NP Program students have to take. I took an graduate Advanced Pathophysiology course and then I’m taking a Grad Stats course this Spring through Winona. Both online. Hope that helps!

I am also applying to MSA for 2021! I submitted my application at the end of September because of the verification timing. I didn't have any issues requesting a letter of rec from a past nursing supervisor, but I know my organization just reinstituted supervisors being able to provide letters of rec for academic programs. I had a difficult time getting a hold of MSA at first but was able to reach someone by phone a few weeks ago. They were very hard to reach this Summer though! I have been a CCU nurse for almost 2 years and was on a General Medicine floor 2 years prior to that. I have a 3.8 GPA and have taken a biochemistry class to fulfill their requirement . I also just took an advanced graduate pathophys class. I got my CCRN this Summer. I am not precepting or charge but did precept on my old unit. I'm involved in committees and doing an EBP project with DON. Throwing that all out there in case others are wondering about applicant experience!

Mayo Clinic interview
Hey! Sorry for the late reply! Rent is getting higher and higher so I would definitely suggest looking for a roommate or just buying a house (most rent is comparable to a mortgage here). I found my apartment on craigslist and was lucky because of the affordability and location near St. Mary's. I suggest (if possible) getting a place near where you are working (St. Mary's campus or Downtown) because of the commuting situation. It is park and ride in. There is no parking unless it's evening/night, you're willing to pay for parking, or you've worked here for a bajillion years. Walking/biking is much easier and saves you time on a bus. As far as the search goes, I would suggest looking on craigslist or facebook groups. It's hard finding a roommate until you get to know people here and start hearing about opportunities. What unit will you be on?

Mayo Clinic interview
I'm sorry to hear that! I have been working at Mayo for almost a year now. It is an opportunity I'm glad I didn't miss. I work in General Medicine and have learned so much. Mayo gives so many opportunities for career growth and education. Rochester is also a great place to live. Housing prices have gone up but I rent a very affordable apartment and there are always people looking for roommates too. In addition, I have made some great friends (Rochester is a great place to meet people) and found a great church. It's a good place to start if you are young and able to do it!
