Jealous Friends...

Published

Have you guys experienced any jealousy or changes in your friends because you're now a nurse?

I'm in the pre nursing phase, and now 2 of my close friends (who dropped out first year of college) are going back because of me. I'm not sure weather to feel flattered or insulted.

Your initial comment to me came across ******.

It seemed like an attempt to be shaming in a funny dress up.

Maybe you and a group having a running joke about the topic but those not in the know may not find the humor.

If you find fun in that, well, have at it.

You just proved my list.

Peace out.

So...I didn't improve your night? Aw...

(No offense intended. Peace out, yourself.)

Reread numbers 2 and 6 on your list. She said she agreed with your post but wanted to talk about your ellipsis use. That was enough to offend you?? My, my.

I tried to let you know what the ellipsis stuff was about, but apparently it's not your cuppa humor.

I get it. Not everything is funny to everyone else. But not every so-so joke is "shaming"; a word that is becoming increasingly and irritatingly overused.

:sorry:

Actually, it's pretty funny. But, some may not see it as such, especially if they haven't been in on it from the beginning.

All I know is, I make sure I count my dots before I post anything lol.

Am I the only that had to look up the word "ellipses"? Lol you guys always keep me entertained. Thanks!

Sometimes, when I haven't heard from Far for awhile, I use too many ellipses so she'll yell at me........

We do get paid the same.

Nonsense. BSN prepared nurses get a full 15 cents more per hour in my market so there :p

I understand how you feel. When I was pursuing Nursing, I asked my coworkers if they wanted to join me by taking pre-req courses together. I thought to myself, this journey would be a lot easier if I had friends in it with me. They all declined saying Nursing wasn't for them or they decided to just find a better paying job. However, after I completed the RN program and got licensed....everyone is in shock! Those same people are now asking me how I did it and now they want to go back to school. So I totally understand lol :)

Me and my sister are 11 years apart. I'm the oldest.

I left my home state and moved to a different state. She left a few years later and moved to the same state, same city.

I graduated college first, she ended up going to the same college and majoring in the same thing. She just graduated back in may.

Now I'm in nursing school, she is gearing up to go to physical therapy school.

My point: Some people just need a little guidance and motivation to get to a certain place in their life. Eventually they will find their own way. I didn't think she was "copying" me. I felt honored that I can be some inspiration and motivation for her.

Posting on forums, threads, message boards and et al...........

2) Someone is going to be offended, opposed or misunderstand/misinterpret your thoughts.

Well, you certainly proved that point! I didn't know about the ellipsis joke, but I definitely got that it was a joke.

Hooray for big sisters doing all of the hard work and research for us! Until you posted this, I hadn't realized I am actually a copycat, too! My sister is 6 years older than me, and had been an LPN for 8ish years now. I ended up loving all of the stories she told me about her job, and decided I wanted to be a nurse, too. True story: I moved back to Florida (from Boston) just to go to the same school my sister went to all those years ago because it is a great school. I know it is super hard to believe, but she is over the freaking moon excited for me. She is also very happy to have inspired me. The best part is that my return to school has inspired her to go back for her ADN, so she can be an RN, too. We are thrilled for each other. I can't imagine coming to a forum to smack talk my sister for choosing to further her education. The idea is so foreign to me.
