SPC Nursing Fall 2018
Do yourself a favor and buy one of these rolling bins. ECR4Kids MemoryStor Universal Rolling Cart and Organizer Bag Set, Green: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific My biggest regret of nursing school is not having bought one of these. You can pack all your books, supplies, and everything you need, without breaking your back.

SPC Nursing Fall 2018
Hi everyone! December 2017 Honors grad here. If anyone is interested in buying books on the cheap, LMK. I have every book (minus two, but may be able to get one of those back) on the required and suggested reading lists, as well as notes and study guides. PM me if interested. I am moving and would like to have them gone ASAP. Good luck!!

SPC students applying for fall 2017??
LOL an over-inflated ego will not take you very far in this field. The nurses will eat you alive. The best advice I can offer you is to keep your ego in check and your head down. You did well in your pre-reqs. Cool. Everyone in your class did. It doesn't make you special. You won't make friends. In this program, you are going to want meaningful friendships. In my experience, the cocky students have struggled the most. Just keep in mind you are among your future coworkers, and everyone is just as smart as you, and worked just as hard to get here.

SPC students applying for fall 2017??
I paif $120ish for my Danskos and ditched them after level 1 because they are extremely painful. I bought all black sneakers from Payless for $20 and they are perfect. Don't go crazy on shoes while you are a poor student.

The package you get in level 1 covers all 4 levels. There are a few extra books you'll be buying for each level, but you are mostly set. In Level 1, you will be using the Fundamentals book for the most part, and a couple of others. I would leave my skills kit in the trunk bc you never know when you will need it. It also isn't a bad idea to leave your level 1 books in that rolling case, in your trunk. The case is big enough to fit everything you will need, without breaking your back. The instructors will let you know which books you need for which day, but you will be sticking to maybe 3-4 books for level 1.

This is the case everyone has: Amazon.com: ECR4Kids MemoryStor Universal Rolling Cart and Organizer Bag Set, Black: Industrial & Scientific I wouldn't recommend a rolling backpack or anything other than this. There is an elevator. My only regret in all of nursing school is not having bought this in Level 1. Also, these: Amazon.com: pharm phlash cards: Books You do not need to buy the optional books. I bought every one, and didnt crack them once.

SPC students applying for fall 2017??
There is a contract between Baycare and SPC. Many EAYL students are taught at the BayCare office, and don't even come to our campus. Many more will be sitting among you in class. Many of these EAYL students with lower GPAs are doing much better than the students who brag about getting in with a 4.0. These students are more invested (as there is a contract involved), generally more experienced and committed, and more likely to be successful in the program. This model works for SPC, BayCare, and the local community.

SPC students applying for fall 2017??
Not true. A huge chunk of your cohorts are EAYL students, who generally have much lower GPAs. There are people in my cohort who have 3.2, possibly even lower. In the grand scheme of things, your GPA at this point means nothing, aside from admittance to the program. The pre-reqs were cake, and nothing like the classes you are about to take. In my experience, the cocky 4.0 students have seen a very harsh reality. A few have already left the program, a few are doing well, and a few are barely getting by...most are just doing ok. Which is ok. At this point, they are no longer your competition. These are people who will help you get by the next few lonely, stressful years. Do not walk into this treating everyone as your competition. You will not make friends. Believe me, you will want to make friends. Bay Pines VA was an incredible experience for me. You will see many things the other classes won't see, especially in level 1. The only downside is you are pretty limited as far as patient population goes. You won't see many female patients for the first 3 levels, aside from your pediatric and L&D rotations. We are no longer allowed to do Level 4 at the VA, so we will be at St Anthony's. You will get experience with females there.

This was taken directly from the admissions page for SPC: Earn a minimum grade of C†or better and earn a 2.75 minimum GPA on a 4.00 scale in all Pre-Entry, Support Courses, and General Education requirements included in the admission process. Earn a minimum grade of C†or better and earn a 2.75 minimum GPA on a 4.00 scale in the following course requirements that are completed and being considered for admission: BSC 2085, BSC 2085L, BSC 2086, BSC 2086L, MCB 2010, and MCB 2010L. You will not get in without Microbiology. People have been able to apply to the program while they were currently enrolled in Micro, and some may have been admitted in the past, though I am certain that number is small. If enough people apply with this course completed, why in the world would they accept someone who hasn't taken it? They wouldn't. There are more qualified candidates than you, at this point. Take Micro and reapply.

SPC Nursing Program Spring 2017
You wont automatically be put back in. You will be put into a lottery with other students who did not pass that level, and you may or may not get back in.

SPC students applying for fall 2017??
I'm not sure about the other schools, but SPC recently changed (or are soon changing) their requirements for the bridge program to include 1 year of recent LPN experience. There are so many students using the bridge route now, that requiring recent experience weeds out lesser qualified candidates. Good luck, guys. I know the wait is torture.

Trouble with sciences...
90% of your studies will be science. If you take A&P and feel you cannot grasp it, nursing is not for you. It gets much, much more in depth once you are in a nursing program.

Has anyone been kicked out of nursing school after the FIRST semester?
A girl was kicked out for pushing IV meds, then bragging about it. Pushing IV meds is a HUGE no-no. She was a disgusting person, and everyone was glad to see her go.

Many instructors will not allow voice or video recording. I am in level 3, and this is the first semester it has been allowed.
