Mornin' all. I got my first dose today and I feel almost tearfully relieved and energized to be on this side of history. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the experience of being vaccinated, so that we can share info with those who are still on the fence or who are watchful waiting to see how things go.
My hospital got 5000 doses delivered on Tuesday. We have given almost half of that already in the last two days. Participation is voluntary and divided into tiered groups based on patient exposure. Those who volunteer (still paid but outside normal job duties) to work the employee Covid vaccine clinic we have set up can also get it, which is how I was eligible to get it already today.
Getting the second dose is crucial for any protection, so we make an appointment to come back for the second dose on exactly day 21. We will get another shipment from Pfizer in time for that. My wait time in line was about 30 minutes in all. The first day employees showed up and waited over 2 hours, cheerfully. There is a LOT of positivity and hope going on here surrounding this, which feels amazing.
We go to an observation room for 10 minutes after the injection, where we were given bottled water and single serving snacks while we observe for any allergic reaction.
The injection itself was nothing. Easiest shot I have ever gotten by far. I don't even have any arm soreness so far. I will touch base if I start to get any kind of side effects.
Anyone else getting theirs yet?
I got my first dose December 28, Moderna, and just had arm soreness for a day or two. A coworker got the Pfizer one the week prior and was c/o dizziness, feeling “20% off”, and dropping things but she’s a bit of a drama queen LOL. On a personal note, a relative unfriended me on facebook after I posted that I’d gotten my first shot.
I'm got mine over two weeks ago and zero issues other than a sore arm. Get the 2nd one this Friday Jan. 8th. I've read that the 2nd vaccine in the trials caused more reactions than the first, but I'm hoping for the best.
Of all the coworkers that have gotten it, I only heard of one man in his 30's that experienced moderate fatigue.
We did have an admission of a nurse from the children's hospital across the street that had an anaphylactic reaction but was immediately treated and recovered fast and went home the next day.
We have no Covid-related restrictions or mandates here in Florida and bars were crowded New Year's Eve and we're having 10 to 15,000 new cases a day and I expect that to grow. We are floating to the Covid Unit and I am so relieved to be getting the vaccine.

I got my first dose left deltoid and immediately after lost feeling in my hand. It was numb but the doctor stated same happened to her in her hand and it lasted a few hours. 10 minutes after a wave of numbness tingling sensation went through my entire body into my tongue and I could no longer feel my face. Very scary. I fortunately received it while I was working so I was in the best place. Airway wasn’t compromised so it was a mild/mod reaction. Vitals were good and my oxygen saturation never dropped. It’s been 6 hours and I am not able to feel my hand and left side of my face which got very numb after the injection. I am opting out of receiving the second dose obviously. This was my experience and I’m happy to hear no one else got this.
None of my business by I hope you will review this with your PCP and discuss your options.
This scenario doesn't overwhelm one with the idea of any kind of allergic reaction/substance-specific reaction.
Hope you are feeling better now.

Which vaccine did you get?
Had the Moderna vaccine. Not one bit of pain on injection or the site later. I did feel headachy and had hot flashes/cold chills for a couple days. I figured it was my immune system kicking into gear. Had a small headache the day after.
5 days out, no problems. I feel just fine!
2nd shot Jan 28th. Not worried.

Pfizer. My unit which is a surgical unit without any PUI's or Covid was supposed to be one of the last to get it in the hospital behind the Covid and PUI units, the ER, Respiratory Therapists and ICU's. They thought it would take a few weeks to get all of them but so many refused it only took a couple of days and I got bumped up and got it pretty fast. Like I said, I'm glad because our covid units are filling up again and we're floating there. I'm 61 without co-morbidities and a healthy weight but I do not want Covid.
Senior ADN student at a hospital affiliated school. All of the RN students in my city have been scheduled for the vaccine except our school. I have called over 30 different clinics and pharmacies only to be told they are vaccinating "their" employees and students. My school is not offering the vaccine and has no plans to inoculate us. We will be starting clinicals in the ED/ER in weeks. I'm still hopeful that I can snag a spot once more vaccines come in.
I got my second dose Wednesday, and all I can say is be ready. That was rough. I had a fever/chills, body aches, joint pain, headache, fatigue for the entire next day. I didn’t take Tylenol since I didn’t want to decrease my immune response. Most people I know who got their second dose had similar effects but a lot of them took Tylenol or ibuprofen, so they probably felt a little better than I did.

Hmm...more irritable could be a problem in my cabin...LOL
I'm in line for the Moderna. Alaska got a better than anticipated first shipment. Keep your fingers crossed.
