  1. Received my Pfizer dose #1 about 24 hours ago and I feel good. Some muscle pain, but no worse than any other vaccine. Arm just feels like I had a decent workout yesterday. Also, I am on Remicade for an autoimmune disease and had COVID19 a few months ago.
  2. What bothers me is when people say they won't get the vaccine because they don't know the "long-term effects" yet. Fine, that's agreeable when the world is not in a devastating pandemic and the only way to go back to some ~normalcy~ will be to vaccinate. By the time we know the "long-term effects", hundreds of thousands more people will be dead. Also, we certainly do not know the long-term effects of having had COVID-19 either. For all we know, all COVID survivors may have end stage lung disease in 5 years. That's just my opinion. Trust the science.
  3. I 100% agree with FloatRN19. I'm currently working in the float pool and I started there as a new grad last August. I love it. It has been an incredible learning experience. Of course it's not always easy but getting to know people on every unit is key. I would go for the float job any day, especially if your orientation is that long.
  4. Yeah! I've worked on that unit quite a bit actually... I really like it. It's a great unit for learning- you'll see a little bit of everything, plus the trauma cases are interesting too. The staff on the unit are all very helpful and nice.
  5. Manwer1- I was told in my offer which unit I would be on (medsurg/tele float). I imagine they will tell you before your start date, or else I would ask them because there are several medsurg units. Good luck studying for the nclex!
  6. Congrats on accepting a position! I really like working at Masonic and the residency program is great. The long orientation really helps you feel prepared for when you're on your own. Always ask questions, everyone is super helpful. Which unit will you be on?
  7. Chicago, IL New grad in Residency program $27.17 + shift diffs ($2.50 nights, $3.50 weekends) Med-surg/telemetry float pool in level 1 trauma center
  8. You're going to need to consume some alcohol to get through nursing school...
  9. Yes they definitely asked why you chose the selected units as your top choices. I believe there might have been a scenario question or two, but I don't recall a prioritization question. The cohort I'm in is bigger than they usually are- we have 17 nurses in it and they said they interviewed around 40-50. The cohort after mine I think has about 10-12 nurses in it. Let me know how it goes!
  10. Hi! Congrats on getting an interview! I know it's a pretty competitive program. I am currently in the residency program and I started back in August... I love it so far. Interview wise, there was 2 parts- one with a panel of 3 managers on various units of the hospital, and the other was more informal and informational with HR. The part with the managers was not as intimidating as you may expect, they were all very friendly. I remember it being shorter than I had expected, maybe 20-30 mins long. And basically all of their questions were the type where you explain what you did or would do in a given situation. They want specific examples. "Tell me about a time where you demonstrated teamwork... Leadership...Or patient advocacy..." Those types of questions. Feel free to message me any more questions you have! Best of luck :)
  11. Got an offer! So excited!
  12. Has anyone who interviewed for the 2015 summer cohort RN Residency at Illinois Masonic heard back yet?? So anxious over here... The wait has been forever.
