Mornin' all. I got my first dose today and I feel almost tearfully relieved and energized to be on this side of history. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the experience of being vaccinated, so that we can share info with those who are still on the fence or who are watchful waiting to see how things go.
My hospital got 5000 doses delivered on Tuesday. We have given almost half of that already in the last two days. Participation is voluntary and divided into tiered groups based on patient exposure. Those who volunteer (still paid but outside normal job duties) to work the employee Covid vaccine clinic we have set up can also get it, which is how I was eligible to get it already today.
Getting the second dose is crucial for any protection, so we make an appointment to come back for the second dose on exactly day 21. We will get another shipment from Pfizer in time for that. My wait time in line was about 30 minutes in all. The first day employees showed up and waited over 2 hours, cheerfully. There is a LOT of positivity and hope going on here surrounding this, which feels amazing.
We go to an observation room for 10 minutes after the injection, where we were given bottled water and single serving snacks while we observe for any allergic reaction.
The injection itself was nothing. Easiest shot I have ever gotten by far. I don't even have any arm soreness so far. I will touch base if I start to get any kind of side effects.
Anyone else getting theirs yet?
We just got our batch of doses and I've volunteered to administer it to fellow co-workers, but I myself am a tad nervous as the flu vaccine makes me feel terrible for a day or two. Glad to hear others have faired well. I work with Covid patients and was always curious if I've caught it in the last year. Only felt crummy one time in 2020.
I received the first injection on Thursday. When we first found out we would have the option to receive the vaccine, I was a little nervous. However, after doing tons of research, I personally felt that it was my duty as a nurse in public health to take part in this. I feel like everyone should do the research in order to make an informed decision either way.
I had a mild headache and fatigue on Thursday, a mild headache and tenderness at the injection site on Friday, and haven't had any side effects since.
Got the vaccine on Friday morning, gradually developed a moderate headache, which is a very common known side effect according to Pfizer. I barely felt the shot. The flu shot hurt a lot more in comparison. The injection site does have some swelling and soreness but it's not too bad.
I had some chills on the second day and headache peaked on the second day. I spent a good portion of the day in bed after taking a hot shower to help with the chills. Now today is day 3. I don't have any chills. Headache is mostly gone. Injection site is barely sore.
I realized this may not be the norm for everyone. I always feel unwell for a day or two post flu shot, so I kind of expected a similar course with the Pfizer COVID vaccine.
So encouraging to hear from nurses who have gotten the vaccination! Thank you so much to those who have shared their experiences. I think this will go a long way to reassuring others.
There are risks with any vaccine (or medicine or procedure) but the benefits are far outweighing the risks for most people at the current time. I'm so thankful we have another tool available against COVID-19.
A couple of friends have already received theirs with very minor, if any reactions.
I'm scheduled in a couple of weeks:)
Just got mine yesterday. Not gonna lie I was a little hesitant. Im not anti-vaxxer and Im not worried about short term side effects, just worried long term. So far I just have a sore arm. I know a couple people experienced low fever, body aches, headache a day or so later but that resolved within a day.
My hospital just announced that the tiered system for vaccinating employees won't be needed. As of today we are getting enough vaccine to immunize every single employee if they want it. It still is not mandatory, but we have had such an overwhelmingly positive response that we got more doses right away. SUCH great news.
I am four days post vaccination. I have no symptoms now.
I thought very hard about the vaccine. I figured my odds of long term sequela from the vaccine itself weren't as high as the potential for long term issues if I come down with Covid. That was just my own thought process. I don't blame people who would rather watch and wait.
Got mine Thursday!! I had soreness in that arm for two days which I largely blame myself for, for not taking Tylenol before like I usually do IM shots. No other side effects and u had a bad reaction to the flu this year and usually get atleast fatigue. We also were asked to stay for 15 minutes atleast after to observe haven’t heard of anyone having weird side effects yet!! It’s so exciting ?
Got mine! My arm has been sore and my back/neck a little achey, but I think that’s from the position I fell asleep in (I already have known issues with this). I did crash pretty hard after getting it, but I also had a busy day at work, so again- correlation does not equal causation ?♀️

I received my vaccine today. I work the outpatient area where covid testing is done in a high risk urban area. We have a high flow of patient's who may or may not have covid walking through.
So far, no side effects, not even at the injection site.
