Concerned...allnurses store product

Is anyone else a little concerned that allnurses.com is selling candy in pill bottles at their online store? I for one remember that lecture in pediatrics. Don't let kids confuse medications for candy... Kid sees parent eating something colorful out of pill bottle, kid tries the same thing but probably not candy. I see that it's supposed to be a gag gift but it could also lead to something very harmful. I'm not a fan.

I was on the fence about going there, but you just had to go there didn't you? :D

I'm tasteless that way. :)

i agree 100% with the op. if that makes me an old poop, so be it. i've been called worse in my day.

too many sweet innocent kids die every year because they get into things they shouldn't.

I find it a bit of a poor idea considering we should all think of safety first I agree if I started feeding my child candy out of a medicinal container, he may think all medicinal container contain cand. allnurses should be more catering to a nurse with selling comfy shoes, neat pens, hand sanitizers, ID badge holders, cool or cute things that can help us get through our long shifts. :)

No small kids around here to get any bad ideas from "novelty gifts", so it doesn't bother me personally. I can see what OP is getting at though, but I would hope that any nurses who buy something like that would be responsible enough not to flash it around kids.

I like the idea of that "nurse action figure", I wonder, do they come in both genders? :)

you realise many kids die in motor vehicle related incidents (even more than poisoning), yet nobody is loosing the plot over kids crashing their tonka trucks. after all, crashing toy cars may give kids the wrong idea.

again, the onus should be on you as a parent to know that feeding your child from a medicine bottle may not be the safest activity. why make allnurses responsible for raising our children? it's pretty obvious this is a gag gift for adult nurses to give to other nurses who appreciate the humour.

FWIW I kind of thought the same thing.. Pill bottles were meant for pills... not candy. JMHO

Thanks for bringing this topic up.

These are intended for a gag gift, adult nurses, who would use nursing skills and know not to use these infront of kids. FYI: We do have, Keep out of Reach of Children on the bottle.

These were handed out at nursing conventions as a gag give away and out of of out 3000 handed out, almost every nurse laughed and chuckled, many enjoyed the gourmet snack and came back the next day to get more.

However, we did have one nurse complain with the OPs concerns. I agree, there may be some validity to the message with candy in a pill bottle with small children. But with some common sense and nursing knowledge, I don't see this being a problem.

I will ad some wording to the product description to remind people that these are a gag gift and are not intended for children in anyway, and please use responsibly.

Thanks for all your comments/concerns whether for or against, please feel free to continue the conversation :)

My opinion is that if you're a parent, be responsible and don't buy them. My other opinion, is that allnurses should not be responsible for what we buy and whether or not we choose to be responsible parents and monitor our children or the children that come into our homes...........

Here is the full label that clearly reads:

Keep out of Reach of Children (on the side of the label)

I have added the warning in the product listing to read:

PLEASE NOTE: This is a gag gift intended for adults, please keep all pill bottles away from children. These bottles clearly state: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. Please use responsibly.

I was mulling this over while standing in a Q at the bank (what fun on Xmas Eve ) and I thought of syringes filled with some or other liquid candy; or would that be an invitation to our kids to start shooting drugs??? Very difficult to be entirely PC these days!

 Or maybe one of those big catheter tip ones filled with Hersheys Chocolate Syrup....?

Better still, a Bulbex with a choice of different flavoured stuff, in a gift box...?

Do I get a commission for passing on intellectual capital? :D

I think some should take a deep breath...
