Concerned...allnurses store product

Is anyone else a little concerned that allnurses.com is selling candy in pill bottles at their online store? I for one remember that lecture in pediatrics. Don't let kids confuse medications for candy... Kid sees parent eating something colorful out of pill bottle, kid tries the same thing but probably not candy. I see that it's supposed to be a gag gift but it could also lead to something very harmful. I'm not a fan.

Really guys? How about you your teach kids about pills and let people buy chocolate covered sunflower seeds as gag gifts if they so please.

So it's a gag gift and not marketed to children? If that's the case, then no, I am not concerned and I think people are getting a little over the top.

My sister bought my husband an off-color "male nurse action figure" when he graduated from nursing school. NOT appropriate for kids, but not meant for kids, either. GAG GIFT. I see the "candies" as the same thing.

Meh. I thought it was cute. Decent enough as a gag gift for a nurse or something...I doubt a kid would be interested in getting a pill bottle from allnurses. There are worse products out there ACTUALLY geared towards kids - life is too short and stressful enough already to clutch my pearls over this.

I think you misunderstood my post.

Then why don't you explain it to us?

Um, I agree with the OP. She/he is not talking about a kid coming on here and buying the candy in a pill bottle but a kid seeing mommy or daddy eating candy out of a pill bottle and then trying that themselves but it not being candy but actual medicine. I remember in peds learning to never tell kids that pills are candy to get them to take them. I wasn't concerned enough to write and complain but in general, I think it's a bad idea. These bottles with candy in them are made to look like prescription bottles of pills.

But it's nothing to get your panties/boxers in a wad over! Take a chill pill ;) allnurses and have a Merry Christmas!

Ok...If a parent or whomever is around the child eating bright colored small objects from a pill bottle and probably sharing them with people a child may be curious. Thus, next time seeing a pill bottle if not properly put away in the home, associate this as something good to eat after having seen parents. Many people keep pills bottles in their purse, car, cabinets, counters. You never know what a child may get into and makes pills look like candy. There are many medications that are colorful and often sugar coated to taste better...thus looking and tasting like candy.

No, I did not misunderstand your post.

Not everyone is going to eat them in front of kids - and it would honestly be in poor taste to do so. However, do you know how many products are made in an edible form that are based off of something that is really inedible and ought to not be eaten? Candy paints, candy bandages...If your child is at the age where they cannot comprehend real versus pretend things and to not touch things that aren't theirs, don't have them available. Don't leave pills lying around either - pesky calls to poison control can be avoided. For an older kid or even teen, they could (hopefully) handle eating a candied sunflower from an allnurses pill bottle without going and eating every pill in sight on the belief that they are all candy.

Still, I don't hate the idea of pill bottle candies - in the right venue, they can be cute. I wouldn't waste my money on them, but some people would enjoy them.

Of course, like I said previously, this isn't the type of thing I stress over. I do understand your opinion, even if I don't think it's as big of a deal to see a product like that.

It sounds like you are very responsible with your medications at home, some people not so much. I know there are products like this all over the place I just didn't expect it to be on a nursing forum.

I thought it was a very cute idea. At work it is the running joke that we dispense pills like candy.

I think some should take a deep breath...

Have you seen the novelty candy these days?

Broken glass? Maggots? Used bandages? Barf bags?

Wow, and I thought I could be a killjoy?

Again, the onus is on the adults on how to safely use these gag gifts. If an adult goes around popping "pills" from their gag gift in front of children and said children do something as a result, the onus is still on the adult yes? Or, should Allnurses be responsible for good parenting as well?

Why do you assume that an adult gag gift is going to be used around kids, though?

I'm just thinking of so many adult novelties that might be in a theme that may be attractive to kids: the "adult action figure" I mentioned in a previous post, a dolphin vibrator, chocolate memberes, etc. They're not for kids. Keep them away from kids. Problem solved.

I was on the fence about going there, but you just had to go there didn't you? :D
