Summer 2018 Plans?

Not sure if we have started this type of thread yet this year or not but...what are you doing this summer? Working, traveling, drinking beer on the beach (OldDude)?

I will be chauffeuring my 2 daughters to what we call Summer School for Smarty Pants (enrichment not remedial summer school) for most of the month of June. We have a week long camping trip scheduled for July but otherwise NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH! I can't wait! I am hoping for lots of sleeping in without an alarm, long days on the deck with a cold drink and a book, trips to the lake, working on some home improvement projects and catching up on my scrapbooking. I will have to work 2 to 3 shifts a month at my side gig job but I seriously can't wait for summer vacation to start. Next Thursday, the 24th, is my last work day. Normally our school year ends in June but we have schools being renovated and the district wanted a long summer this year so we get 2 extra weeks! :woot:

June: Telluride Bluegrass Festival - girls camping trip, no boys allowed.

July: Backpacking in Yosemite - Just my husband and myself - our first "long distance" backpack trip. Should be interesting. The last few weekends we have been dehydrating some of our own food and testing recipes - its been hit/miss with this process. I told him the food better be delicious or at the very least edible because the thought of having to eat Cliff bars makes me gag.

Sounds like a relaxing summer for you!!

I have 3 kids (single mom) and we will be going to camp again from mid June to mid July. Kids can't wait! They are so excited to get back. My younger two (twins, age 10) will be doing horseback riding this year and my oldest (age 13) didn't want to add any additional activities (she has until May 30 to decide). At camp they will swim every day and there are all kinds of activities- dance, cooking, archery, rifle shooting, obstacle course, various sports, gymnastics, arts/crafts, kayaking, canoeing trips, etc. Every evening is some kind of game or performances that the different bunks have put together. Basically, it is a 3.5 week slumber party with all day activities and NO SCREENS. It's a nice break for me also. I will work in the health center but on my off time I can do whatever. Last year I went hiking every day, read 4 books while I was there, and had no other responsibilities. All my meals were provided and I didn't have to be a mother to 3 children after working all day. Win-win-win :)

We have 3.5 weeks before we leave for camp and we will go to the pool a lot. I may take a day to go visit relatives that are 3 hours away. After we get back from camp we will have 3 weeks before we are back to school as well.

LOVE SUMMER!!!!

This is so awesome kidz...these memories will be cherished by those kidlets their entire lifetime; a place and times for them to reminisce, as an adult, to re-live good times and grand adventures, that you'll be a part of! They are some lucky bugs to have you!

Our last work day is next Friday!

We have lots of visits planned to see family, but the main thing I'm looking forward too is all the backyard time with my tiny one. She will be two in July and she LOVES just being outside. Instead of my usual wine this summer, I'll be sipping on sparkling juice and relaxing in the kiddie pool with her :)

YES Please!!

There's a Chicagoland thread I started when I was looking for stuff to do during the kid's competition. Great recommendations there.

There is a beach chair with my name on it and I hope my butt is planted in it most days of the week this summer. 28 days left...

It is the thing I am most proud to be able to give to my kids. I think of all the things that led me to it- going to nursing school when because the economy crashed and I was working on commission, getting divorced and deciding that having the summers off would be best, becoming a school nurse, becoming certified in school nursing so I could quit my part time job and not have to pick up hours in the summer... all led me to considering working at a camp, specifically so my kids could attend. There is no way that I could give them that experience other wise :) Life works in mysterious ways :)

I finish up June 1st. This summer, I will be driving my daughter around to dance, Girl Scout, sewing, and choir camps, hoping to spend some time in Louisiana with my parents, taking my son to visit colleges (I'll have a 5th grader and a senior next year), and hopefully making lots of money from my vinyl decal and t-shirt business. Besides that, I plan to read as much as humanly possible. We are not taking a vacation; I am trying to make enough money with my side biz to send the family to Portland, OR in December to watch my son run at Nike Nationals (cross country).

My clinic is being used all summer for summer school programs, so I can't even come back early. August 7th will be here all too soon...

June 9th-16th I'm going a mission trip to Guadalajara, Mexico. (I can't wait!!!) At the end of June we have a family reunion. I will stay in Oklahoma for about 2 weeks after to spend time with my mom. Gotta workshop at the end of July and also have to get in 2 days for exchange days some how. Then we start back to school on 8/13/18.

We are so ready here. I think some of the teachers have senioritis. It's been a very difficult year. Our year started out crummy, but the end has been pretty smooth, but every one is ready for it to end.

I am working PRN at the hospital as a 1 to 1 care companion (sitter) and task assist for psych. I may go on a two week road trip with my mother, although I am not set on that. Every year in June we go to a board game convention, so that is for sure happening.
