Summer 2018 Plans?

Published

Not sure if we have started this type of thread yet this year or not but...what are you doing this summer? Working, traveling, drinking beer on the beach (OldDude)?

I will be chauffeuring my 2 daughters to what we call Summer School for Smarty Pants (enrichment not remedial summer school) for most of the month of June. We have a week long camping trip scheduled for July but otherwise NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH! I can't wait! I am hoping for lots of sleeping in without an alarm, long days on the deck with a cold drink and a book, trips to the lake, working on some home improvement projects and catching up on my scrapbooking. I will have to work 2 to 3 shifts a month at my side gig job but I seriously can't wait for summer vacation to start. Next Thursday, the 24th, is my last work day. Normally our school year ends in June but we have schools being renovated and the district wanted a long summer this year so we get 2 extra weeks! :woot:

I am taking my two kids (hubby has to work) to Springfield IL for my family reunion,

River's ears perk up:geek: :geek: crazy, small world as that's my hometown though I haven't lived there for close to 20 years!!!

The first half of the summer will be me chauffeuring my children to theater camp, golf camp & ballet camp. The the other half takes the oldest child to Scout Camp and then the best is a blissful week of the oldest at overnight camp! After that the kids and I (husband doesn't have the time off work) are taking an epic 3 week roadtrip to .... yes, Springfield, IL! Land of Lincoln, in the middle of the Prairie State, among the fields of corn and beans! On our trip we plan on visiting friends and family along the way (we will go and come back through different states to maximize the folks we can see. The last time we did a trip like that was when I was still a stay at home 4 years ago so I'm excited to have the summer off to have the chance to see lots of people I haven't been able to visit and my youngest doesn't remember our last trip.

I have no days off in summer. And it would be really busy. what expect me is work overtime everyday.

I still have three more weeks. Planning on spending as much time as possible on Cape Cod (grew up down there and my mom still lives there) with the kids and then in August taking a family vacation to Lake Michegan/Chicago/ Illinois (using much of the tips given earlier this year while in Chicago). Recently accepted a new position next year where I will be covering per dium for 15 nurses in a town nearby. If they like me I will have first choice if any of those jobs open up full time. I am looking forward to the change as the salary is better, the hours are better and I look forward to being part of a district (vs alone at a private school like I am now) with support and coverage.

Not working! LOL!

My daughter is a competitive gymnast (moving up to level 4 next month) and my son is in band and plays every sport he can, so most of my days consist of rushing out of work to get them from school and bring them to the gym, field, etc. It'll be so nice not to feel so rushed for 2 months!!

We also have season passes to Six Flags and the pool. We'll squeeze in a family vacation AND I'll be training for my 3rd Chicago Marathon taking place in October.

I'm always impressed when people tell me they are training/running in a Marathon and wish that it was something I could/wanted to do. You will only find me running if something is chasing me - LOL.

Not a school nurse, but I love the thread! Currently sitting on the patio with the little grandbabies playing plays on and sandbox. The five D12 shifts, and we are off to Illinois to see one of the older grandkids graduate high school. (Also, I get to play with my other little grandbabies while I'm there!) The day we get back from that road trip, we jump on a plane to Cancun for five days, Back home, another straight six D12s, then fly to Virginia beach to see another grand daughter graduate high school. After that it's back to routine, three D12s a week with the rest of the time on the porch swing with my guy and a cold drink.

Look into Doctors Without Borders. They are one of the few non religious charity organizations.

It looked quite expensive to go with Doctors Without Borders last time I checked. Is it still? I believe all cost, flight, etc were paid by the volunteer last time I looked & I just couldn't afford it, though I would love to go!

I have always wanted to go on Mercy Ships during the summer. I will give you an update when I can. This will be my first time out of the country.

Yes, please update us!!!! What a great thing to do!!!!

Are you in Chicagoland? I'm in the West burbs. My best friend is doing the Chicago Marathon for the second time this fall!

I am! North burbs. Good luck to your best friend! It is my favorite race next to the Wisconsin 1/2 Marathon that takes place in Kenosha in May. The atmosphere is amazing!! :)

Specializes in School Nurse.

I misspoke earlier. Today was the last day for Seniors (not sure why I thought I had another week, time flies, that moves everything up).

I've seen a few come by today to say goodbye or to pick up stuff they had (inhalers,etc...) in clinic. So sad I wont be seeing these faces again (well, I do intend to go to the commencement ceremony on my own time).

I've got so many favorites even with my frequent fliers. Case in point was the sweet young man I just removed the foley from (so happy, they'll let him wear a diaper to graduation, he already pretty much missed out on the prom). I doubt I'll see him again, but we've spent a lot of time together if not under the best of circumstances.
