Wise One Liners

Published

The use of Wise One Liners helps me when I'm needing to make decisions, especially at work.

Here's a few examples crediting the person from which I first heard it:

If it ain't broke, don't fix it." -Dad

"The worst enemy of good is better." -Dr. M

And from Dr. ABC:

When I was about 16 years old, I wanted to discuss a sensitive subject with my Dad.

I said, "I don't know where to start".

Over 30 years ago, when I worked in CD treatment, several of the staff had difficulties dealing with the nursing supervisor. We all knew we were just going to have to make the best of the situation and go on doing our jobs.

One wise therapist put it succinctly by saying,

I hear the voices too; you're probably just a better listener.

If you look around and everyone is an ***, you’re probably the ***.

After report every single shift she worked, one former coworker would brightly say, "Guys!!! Only 11 hours and 45 minutes until we get to go home!" Any time anything annoying happened she'd smile and say, "That ok, because there are only x hours and y minutes until we get to go home!" (the time was always exactly correct) ?

I don’t expect much (from administration) and I’m never disappointed
