Why are some people on here so rude?

Published

I'm a pre nursing student and I asked like 7 questions and people have been on my back.

Now what is the point of that?

I even asked a question about being depressed and being in school and someone told me to quit complaining (we're going to assume that this person is in the field and not some troll)

But why?

Why bring down someone who is just trying to make better of their life?

It's the internet and there are all types of people around. What's "rude" to one person isn't necessarily to another. Some people communicate in a more direct manner. Message boards are not great hang outs for sensitive people.

Simply because they're anonymous. :/ Guarantee most of the rude comments you've received wouldn't be said to your face.

I completely agree w/ you.

But, ignore the negative feedback; don't take it to heart! There are some genuine, kind people on here that will sympathize with you and actually help :)

You will hear from all kinds of people on here....people may be mean, blunt, rude, angry, resentful, etc. Often what I see though is just blunt constructive criticism and it isn't what people want to hear so they get butt hurt. Not saying that's you because I haven't seen your posts but it seems to be the trend. They are routinely negative posters but some people are just that - super negative and you will run into them your whole life, you got to be able to shake those kind of people off.

Life is not full of unicorns and rainbows. It's not. Life is full of negative and positive people. It's the Internet.

The great thing about America is that we can have our own opinions and say what we want. Sometimes it's what you want to hear, sometimes it's not.

I will not get on my soapbox here, but it is amazing to me that people say things like this. Everyone does not have to agree with you and having a different opinion does not make anyone rude or mean. I'm not just talking about this thread or comment, I see threads like this at least once a week.

Its time to put the big girl panties on. Think of how boring life would be if we all thought the same. I love nothing more than a god, intelligent debate. It gets the mind going.

Life is what YOU make it. Not how other people react to you or what they think of you. A confident person does not give two hoots what other people say to them or think of them.

It is the internet and sometimes people do feel freer to be more open with their words - less of a filter.

However, we do have a terms of service at AN and if you see something that violates those terms, please report it. Thanks and best wishes!

People have different opinions. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't mean they are being rude or ugly. You are going to have to grow some thick skin to get through nursing school.

I think black type on a screen can easily be misinterpreted on both ends!

But I see a pattern with you Up..you hold onto negative feelings and offenses..like writing this now when that depression post is a few weeks old, and the other posts you made even older. I would bet, and I don't mean this to hurt your feelings, that if someone was intentionally rude to you, they've long forgotten about you. not to sound rude myself when I say this, but I actually kind of disagree with this statement, to a degree it can actually help you grow a thicker skin if your more sensitive to that kind of thing. At least that's been my experience.

I am a very emotionally sensitive person but you can find ways around your emotions and learn how to cope with them better and going on to public forums like this one and just knowing before hand. Some people are just doing to be butts is really helpful or like I said it has been for me anyway.

Knowing before hand that Yes it the internet people are going to be mean cause frankly they can..helps. If you expect any person to have a possible negative out look, opinion on something, it will less the amount of how it effects you as opposed to if you did not see it coming at all. If you know what you are talking about and believe what you are saying then back it up! don't care what other people think of things usually in MOST cases its based off that person's opinion...not a fact.

I thought your name sounded familiar, so I checked out some of your past posts.

Most tellingly, the "Jealous Friends" thread you started.

I suggest you reread that one, honestly see who was rude, sarcastic and calling names, and you will have the answer to your question.

Frankly, you got off on the wrong foot months ago-don't look for a lot of sympathy unless you tone down the attitude and indignation. Especially when you get answers you don't like or don't want to hear.
