Why did you come to allnurses? What made you stay?

Published

There is a current thread entitled Things that annoy me on allnurses. Members have been pretty vocal on that thread. We really are interested in your feedback. You are why we are here. You are what has helped to make the site what it is today.

We are always striving to find out more about our membership.......who you are, how you got here, why you stayed, what you want, what you like. We want to provide features and opportunities that are of interest to you. With such a large membership, we know we can't please everyone all the time But we want to provide a place that has something for most of you....and that takes a lot of different types of things.

We hope that even though you may not like some of the things we offer, some of the new things we have tried or will be trying, you will be supportive. Let us know what you like and what you don't like. But please be respectful in your communications.

To help us as we consider things in the future, please take a few minutes to answer a few questions.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

3. How long have you been a member?

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

We want to continue to be the voice of the nurses as we all strive to raise the level of our profession. We thank you for your input!

Another feature I'd like to see - the ability to send/receive PMs sooner than the 12(?) post minimum.

I don't- this is one of the defenses against spammers sending out mass PMs. There is a way around it- purchasing a paid membership.

I do want to add something I'd like to see, echoing other posters- a minimum number of posts before being able to start a thread. The vast majority of message boards I participate in do have such a requirement. It seems to help with new members becoming acclimated and encourages them to actually read existing posts, which helps them learn some of the dos and don'ts of the forum.

Paid membership? Is that an option or something you'd like to see?

It's an option. They have 2 different levels. If you go into your account options it says membership upgrade.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I was trying to find a shorter route to India when I discovered this New World!

Okay, really: I had just bought an antique Chevy pickup truck back in '09 and found a site specifically geared to antique Chevy trucks. I learned so much from asking questions and discussing automechanics with those experienced mechanics! I thought, "Where could I discuss and share knowledge about my chosen profession?" Viola! A web search yielded AN.com!

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

The wealth of knowledge, opinions, perspectives of AN.com members. And all the off topic fun of the Breakroom! Also: The assistance and feedback from the Administrators. Siri has been Grrrrreat!

3. How long have you been a member?

5 years.

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc.

My specific area of Nursing, the Pschiatric forum. I am allowed to pursue three major area of Interest there: Psychiatric Nursing, Art, and Humor.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

I am no longer able upload images directly as posts. They have to be uploaded as "Attched Images". I've discussed this with another member, who is computer savy, and he can no longer directly upload either. So, I'd like to be able to upload images as before.

Thanks for asking!

I found this site when I was researching the profession because I thought nursing would be a good second career. That was almost 10 years ago. I have been a nurse for 4 years now and rarely make time to come see what's going on. I stayed at the time because I learned a lot and came to admire and respect a number of the members who posted frequently. It seems it was easier then to see the latest discussions. Now what I see initially are articles, most of which make me yawn. What I'm really after is some friendly chat about both professional and personal topics.

Maybe just enjoy a few at a time. They could be a bit much all at once.

Why did I come to allnurses: I heard about the site while an adjunct and was curious

Why did I stay: I enjoy reading what everyone posts and responding to some of the comments

How long have I been a member: Over 6 years

What do I enjoy the most: all of the comments that not only experienced nurses post but also the comments from students and new grads, I also like helping the family of students that don't understand what school is all about or what the new grad has to go through to prepare for boards/interviews/new job.

What would I like to see changed or added: the bashing that we see on some of the posts, there are ways to get your point across without the hostility that can be read in the posts.
