There is a current thread entitled Things that annoy me on allnurses. Members have been pretty vocal on that thread. We really are interested in your feedback. You are why we are here. You are what has helped to make the site what it is today.

We are always striving to find out more about our membership.......who you are, how you got here, why you stayed, what you want, what you like. We want to provide features and opportunities that are of interest to you. With such a large membership, we know we can't please everyone all the time But we want to provide a place that has something for most of you....and that takes a lot of different types of things.

We hope that even though you may not like some of the things we offer, some of the new things we have tried or will be trying, you will be supportive. Let us know what you like and what you don't like. But please be respectful in your communications.

To help us as we consider things in the future, please take a few minutes to answer a few questions.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

3. How long have you been a member?

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

We want to continue to be the voice of the nurses as we all strive to raise the level of our profession. We thank you for your input!

I've been a member for 5 years. I made a friend on AN shortly after joining and landed a job through this person.

AN was a huge comfort, since I worked permanent nights and had relocated thousands of miles away from family and friends.

I've continued to return because I've learned a lot through this site, and of course, AN is quite entertaining.

Well it was kind of haphazard. I was trying to find clipart for a project and was directed to your site. Now I realize that it's a great site with a lot of resources for nurses. A real virtual community for nurses. Really great!

But did you ever find your clipart?

As far as the what would you change, this is a suggestion to help those sick of seeing PVT, NCLEX, "BIO 202 at XYZ School" posts:

You know the little box on the right side of the screen with "liked, popular, hot?" What if that stayed as is, but there was a button to switch back and forth between an "Allnurses" and "your favorites" version of it. In the "your favorites," you could choose which forums you do or do not want to see the "liked, popular and hot" from. The "Allnurses" version of it would remain as is.

Obviously there would be some kinks to work out, but just a thought.

I've been a member since 2007 right before I took my NCLEX. I think I found it by searching on nursing topics. There are some things only other nurses will ever understand...that's what keeps me coming back: to vent, to use as a soundboard, to learn, to laugh. There are some great people on here.

I like this idea. I browse the student forum, but rarely feel compelled to post. If there were a widget that I could customize to keep me up to date on the forums I use most often I'd use the heck out of it.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I have been a junkie for discussion boards since message boards were called newsgroups. As the Internet has grown, I have found that message boards can be great to find subject specific answers to questions and experiences. The thing is, one of my favorite things in life is to learn from the lived experiences of others. I love that I can sit down and ask a question or share an experience and have others come and discuss them with me.when I first came here, I was a pre-nursing student with great ideas of where my life would take me. Unfortunately, fate intervened and changed my path dramatically. I got to read similar stories from other people. I got to learn that things would be okay. Most importantly, I got to see that because my first goal in nursing was so specific, I had closed my mind to a lot of other possibilities. Through the membership here I was able to see what other possibilities existed. I was able to keep an open mind, and learn from people from different specialties, and find my love and my dream job, which I am working right now. I guess that kind of answers number two.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

Other than the above, popcorn, crusty old bats, casseroles for Esme, wonderful thread derailing, fellowship, and really..... You guys get it. I don't have much time to socialize in my day-to-day life, let alone get to know other nurses outside of work. I need a place to let it all out. I need people to tell me that when I freak out I'm okay. I stay for the community and the leadership.

3. How long have you been a member?

2011 maybe?

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

See above

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

I am not a fan of how huge the desktop version seems. There are just too many tabs and different places that are right in front of you. It makes it very hard to navigate and find specifically what you're looking for. I love the app because it simpler it's more streamlined. The problem with that though is that you don't have all the same features as you have on the desktop version. Something in between would be awesome, but I'm not really sure that that's realistic to hope for. Other than that, I really love this place.

I'm torn between editing and pressing send. i'm on my phone sitting at a gas station and I talk to texted this whole thing. Forgive the typos if they're really bad. i'll try to edit in time if anything doesn't make sense.

That's funny - I love the desktop and don't like looking at stuff on my phone. At all.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I was thinking about career changing. Everyone around me has told me to go to nursing school for over a decade. I really didn't know much about what a nurse *actually* did (Shame on me, I know. I even worked in the medical field but not clinically). So I stumbled here while doing my research. Google is great!

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

I spent about 3 hours (no lie) reading through threads the first time I came here. I was learning that nursing is not medicine and nurses are not just doctors "helpers" (I told you, I was ignorant, I admit my fault)

I love the honesty and the years of experience that is available at your fingertips with a quick search of the forum.

3. How long have you been a member?

2 years maybe?

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

The variety of information that is highlighted in the main articles. Being that I am a student I like to read about different experiences, helpful tips, brutal honesty, tough love and support. AN has been a great resource for me. And unlike the Bureau of labor stats site you can find out what the job market is actually like in an area just by asking.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

I'd like to be able to "follow" threads and get updates. Maybe I already can't but don't know how? The forum moves so fast and sometimes I'll read something and want to see the responses but forget until a few days later then it's buried behind new stuff.

Also, I'd like to have more ability to edit or delete a post. Currently you only have a few minutes to edit and that can be frustrating.

The PVT posts really irritate me. Especially the current one. I find it concerning that there are so many nurses that I'm presuming learned critical thinking skills and how to evaluate evidence yet they insist the PVT is real and works ???? I don't know about you but it makes me a little scared

Another feature I'd like to see - the ability to send/receive PMs sooner than the 12(?) post minimum.

Feature I'd like - the breakroom being part of the app, or even getting its own.
