There is a current thread entitled Things that annoy me on allnurses. Members have been pretty vocal on that thread. We really are interested in your feedback. You are why we are here. You are what has helped to make the site what it is today.

We are always striving to find out more about our membership.......who you are, how you got here, why you stayed, what you want, what you like. We want to provide features and opportunities that are of interest to you. With such a large membership, we know we can't please everyone all the time But we want to provide a place that has something for most of you....and that takes a lot of different types of things.

We hope that even though you may not like some of the things we offer, some of the new things we have tried or will be trying, you will be supportive. Let us know what you like and what you don't like. But please be respectful in your communications.

To help us as we consider things in the future, please take a few minutes to answer a few questions.

herring, lmao @ Altavista, that was my favorite search engine for years! Probably accessed on my Netscape browser. :D

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I was searching for information on a local paramedic-to-RN program.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

Because I was so warmly greeted by Siri. Lol. Really, I was! And then I ended up doing Excelsior College's paramedic-to-RN program so I stayed to "hang out" in the EC forums. Then I was invited to be a guide, then a moderator, and so on.

3. How long have you been a member?

Since August 9, 2005. Almost 10 years?!

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

The enormous variety of forum topics and the collective knowledge and wisdom that is present here. Unparalleled.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

Honestly I can't think of anything, but I am sure that the amazing Admins will continue to come up with brilliant innovations!

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

In 2008, I was a CNA, helping support my mom, and was dirt poor. I started Googling trying to research nursing and nursing schools so as to better my career and found AN. I lurked for a while, then joined in '09. I thought I was hot stuff and posted a link to a political article that someone had emailed to me. Never made the politics mistake again.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

Daytonite, mostly, and because I liked reading about others' experiences. As time has gone on, I have tried to pay back some of the debt I owe to daytonite and some other posters. And sometimes, it's like watching a train wreck on crack. I just can't look away.

3. How long have you been a member?

Almost 6 years.

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

Member interaction. It's the place I can come to and y'all know what I'm talking about. I like the "Trending" and "Recent" tabs. I used to like the articles tab, but I'm having difficulty coping with the new changes.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

I'd like there to be a button on the mobile page that lets you skip to the last page. I hate "Next"-ing through a 12 page thread. (I don't use the app, I like the mobile site better.) I'd also like there to be a "Spotlight" page where the moderators and staff can highlight the threads they like, or think are important, or put up the threads that should be cautionary tales.

We thank you for your input!

You are welcome!

I'd like there to be a button on the mobile page that lets you skip to the last page.

I just found this myself-- there's a little arrow to the left of the topic title that will take you to the first unread reply.

ETA: you have to be in the thread first.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

Because I was so warmly greeted by Siri.

Siri rocks, although I feel like I am giving her gray hair and heart attacks. Her gentle "chiding" PMs and reminders to calm the **** down (not in those words, of course) are precious. I really like her and feel like a toddler when I upset her.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I think I was googling something and found the site. Been obsessed ever since.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

I've learned so much on this site that has helped me in nursing school and has also helped me find a PCT job in the hospital. This site is very entertaining and a great way for me to wind down after a long day of school, clinical, or work. Plus the other members are AWESOME!

3. How long have you been a member?

Maybe 9-12 months, I can't remember. I've been coming on the site for much longer than I've been a member though.

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

I enjoy the search bar (all the endless discoveries!) and the threads like "What's the grosses thing you've ever seen"/"Funny things patients say"/"Mock other types of threads on AN". The other members are great and I love hearing different perspectives.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

Nothing that I can think of! I love this site so much! Thanks! :D

1. Why did you come to all nurses? One of the floor nurses I worked with recommended Allnurses to me, I was a CNA who was working on my nursing degree.

2. Why did you stay at all nurses? There is always something to learn. I enjoy the speciality forums - especially the one dedicated to the speciality I'm in:) It also gives me glimpses into other areas of nursing. I enjoy reading other's perspectives - even if I don't agree with them.

3. How long have you been a member? Almost 10 years - August 27, 2005.

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc. One of the things I like about Allnurses is that it's kind of a "one-stop stop" for nursing info - I can browse threads, read articles, and there is always something to learn. I can't tell you how many times I've researched things further that have been discussed or mentioned on Allnurses.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to all nurses? I tend to fall into the "nerd" category, so anything related to EBP research or any other resources interests me.

I found it on a google search, I was looking for a nurse forum.

I was looking for info on the job market and climate.

I've been a member 1+ year.

I stay for the social topics, current market trends, and the personalities. Not so much for clinical though I do a search periodically.

I want to see more activity by currently lisenced nurses in the home health and California forums but they are not heavily trafficked (HH) or mostly pre nursing students (CA). So maybe incentives for CA home health nurses to join? :)

Thank you for this site and all of the effort that goes into it!

I first visited Allnurses.com in February 2005. At that time I had just turned 24 and was an unemployed student approximately eight months from completing an LVN program in the greater Los Angeles area. My user name was inspired by my daily 190 mile round trip commute from Bakersfield to Van Nuys, CA.

10+ years have passed and I'm addicted. I've been moderating some of the forums since 2007. I received my LVN license in 2006, my ASN degree and RN license in 2010, and a BSN degree in 2015. So in essence, my educational and career progression has been documented on Allnurses.

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I vaguely recall finding allnurses from a Google search about something r/t nursing school after I got accepted.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

There are some seriously tremendous people here and many of them I have secretly adopted as surrogate instructors. They are fabulous at the information they have to offer and this motivates me when I'm getting through the summer or winter breaks and I start to forget why I'm going to school for a 2nd bachelor's in the 1st place.

3. How long have you been a member?

I trolled for about 6 mos before joining so I would say about two years.

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

I really enjoy the member comments and the amazing help from the senior members/instructors/COBs.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

I wish there was some kind of way for there to be more content (real content) in the student nurse subforums. I think there's too much of the school acceptance threads and other really specific nonsense that I think maybe a sticky thread would help with that. I would like to see if maybe any of the instructors could quiz us on really difficult case studies or something like that. It's fun to come here for some of the informal discussions on things and I really learn SO much from them. I'm not looking at this as a means to supplement what I'm being taught - I come to allnurses because I like to geek out on nursing!

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

I joined as a PN student to connect to the inside world of being a licensed nurse and I stayed.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

To be honest, I never left, just took breaks due to life and building my nursing practice; I returned after a 3 year hiatus (2005-2008) and posted for a bit, then had another hiatus (2008-2012) and read an infamous thread and eased back in.

3. How long have you been a member?

Since October 2014-almost 11 years! :)

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

I like feature stories and written works over in the breakroom, and well-thought out musings and articles from long-time members.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

I would love a breakroom app, as well as the ability to write an article from my phone-I say this as a type next to my laptop in bed. ;)

1. Why did you come to allnurses?

Prior to getting into nursing school, I did a Google search for "Nursing forums" to learn what I was getting myself into, and to try to figure out how to prepare.

2. Why did you stay at allnurses?

Lots of great info and people willing to share their knowledge. I left for a while, and recently came back when my role at work changed. I felt like I wanted to read and learn more about others' experiences, now that I have broader responsibilities.

3. How long have you been a member?

Since 2004, so about 11 years.

4. What do you enjoy the most about allnurses? Features etc

The way the forums are categorized works well for me. The people are great. And the forum is well-run and moderated.

5. What would you like for us to change or add to allnurses?

The search feature! A regular forum search tool is much preferable to the Google-powered search!

Also - the ability to DELETE a post or thread after its been published. (see my above post haha!)

The ability to "go to the first unread post" rather than just the most recent post.

I'm kinda also liking the idea an earlier poster mentioned about a "Dislike" button, but I'm afraid of the can of worms it may open. Maybe it would keep some people from posting negative things about others though.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I lurked around here on and off for a few years before finally joining in 2002. My family and friends lacked interest in anything medical---they didn't "get it"---and the people here did.

That was enough to keep me on board for the past 13 years (in September). I was also a moderator for six years, have been a guide for four, and I've made so many friends here that I can't even imagine my life without Allnurses. I enjoy the lively discussions and keep up with current practice through the site. I don't usually read the scholarly articles, preferring first-person experience pieces (I also have been known to write one or two of those). I also love the camaraderie among long-time members as well as newer members who have assimilated quickly.

You know what I'd really love to see at Allnurses? An annual get-together so we can meet each other IRL. Pick a spot in the middle of the country, rent a convention hall and reserve some hotels, and we'll have a ball! I know that's one of the purposes of having the booth at NTI, but I think an ALLnurses gathering would be more of a general-interest attraction because not all of us are critical care nurses. Just sayin'.
