Who's still waiting on "THE LETTER"

Published

Okay, it's getting down to crunch time!!! I am starting to *think* plan B. I still have to wait until the first part of May before I get any news. If I don't get in, I will need to bust my rear to get more pre req's in this summer for another program starting in Jan'07...

Who else is still waiting for fall 06...and do you have a plan B????

Good luck my fellow future nurses;)

I'm waiting.. "Sometime in May" is as specific as they get. That's just mean.

ugh, yeah that sounds like here .. they say here "end of june at the latest" -- i mean, what the heck?? i wish they would give a specific date .. maybe they are just trying to cover all eventualities. the way i understand it, we get our letter and then phone for our orientation session and the best lab slots will go to the first session .. or something like that ... sounds pretty iffy but i s'pose i will be able to cope with whatever labs i get. it looks like a heavy course load but at least there is no a&p!!!

[color=#483d8b]anyway, the specific date thing can backfire, i guess .. since they said our marks would be online by wednesday and they still aren't posted (but i was able to find out via telephone from the prof who had been sick). personally, i think our university website is archaic and not very organized.

good luck with your waiting! "sometime in may" starts on monday -- woohoo!!! hope you hear a.s.a.p.

how is the waiting going, you guys, or have you all moved on to a did-get or did-not-get post?

i applied to two schools for accel bsn programs that start mid-may. the first school said yes at the beginning of march... but that's the same time i realized going there would be too much of a financial and marital strain (long story). so they said yes, but i couldn't go. the other school, my first choice, waited until after i had to tell the other school yes or no to let me know... ugh! what torture! but i am in my first choice, starting may 15 and soooo excited! :balloons: :balloons:

i do know what you mean about having all the grades in - feels like it's out of your control, doesn't it? :uhoh3:

is so right. I took my NET test in November and just heard last week that most of the advisors are saying the letters will start going out this week. I am soooooo nervous :uhoh3:. I am about to go out of my mind:eek:. I am definately going to be grateful when we can all leave this post alone and go onto the I GOT IN post. Good luck everyone and my prayers are with you.

Still waiting here. Apparently it's taking longer than usual this year. I hope that doesn't mean the competition was fiercer this time.

A nursing instructor on my campus called the head of the school of nursing and was told they were going to mail letters the last week of April. Today is the last day of the month, so surely they will be arriving in the next week.?

I really don't handle waiting very well. My complexion is at it's all-time worst since high school, I am eating enough to move into a larger pair of scrubs, and should be developing a UTI any time now from the excessive guzzling of Coke.

What happened to my long walks, hot baths, and chamomile tea plan for waiting?

I applied at UIC's GEP program on Mar 1 and recieved an email that the school would be sending out letters to everyone after April 1st. The program only has around 40 spots for about 450 applicants. The nice thing is that since you have to pick your master's specialty when you apply, you are only competing with everyone who is applying for your specialty. I am sure most of those applications are for Midwifery and Peds.

From everything I have heard and read, you pretty much have to be a genius these days to get into a nursing program. I know someone who tried and tried to get into a community college nursing program but got accepted into med school instead after being rejected so many times by the community college. I highly doubt that many of the existing nurses working today would even get into nursing school today if they had to compete with the new cohort trying to get in today.

It is shocking to realize that the acceptance rates for some programs is now below that of many of the Ivy league schools!

After reading this post, I didnt read any further. She is so right, it is so competetive..my friend has a 3.7 and didnt get into 2 of the programs (community colleges) that she applied to, so she went to meet with someone at one of the State colleges and got into their BSN program..just like that! I worked in hospital for 16 years and I guarantee that most would not get into a nursing school if they tried today! I mean no disrespect to the "old timers" who went to nursing school years ago, but back then all you had to do was show up practically! It was grueling because a lot of the schools were Hospital schools and some schools back had you living there and working the night shift as an aide(no pay). But academically, its way tougher now.Its hard to make outsiders understand that not getting in does not mean that you are stupid.I applied to 2 programs and di not get into either, so I will just hold my head up high and retake Chemistry(yuck) and improve my C, other than that, my grades are great.:uhoh3:..try again next year

Hello all. New here. I seem to be in the same bopat as the rest of ya'll. Waiting for my letter. They have said some time this month. Probably will be wait listed. I was told that I will definitely get in January class, but I would really like to start in August. Tired of waiting!

At my Community College we can't retake classes, :angryfire . I guess because its all based on points so they go by our GPA and we get points based on what our GPA is. But that still sucks, I hate it because I have a C in Psy and I tried to retake it and they wouldn't let me.

So I finally did it-- I emailed one of the professors who interviewed me for admission back at the begining of April. It was one of those annoying--"Did I get in?" emails. To my credit, she did handwrite her email during the interview and said to contact her if I had any questions- and I did.

When I was applying for Grad school back in 2000, apparently there was some kind of law that said that the schools had to give the students some kind indication that they were accepted by May 15th and they couldn't pressure students to make a decision before May 15. But then again, this was a program where students were at a premium and the school competed with each other by offering juicy scholarships. I wish this same was true for nursing schools.

STILL waiting.......:barf02: I have gained a total of 7 pounds now since February!! :uhoh3: I tend to eat everything in sight when I'm anxious 'bout something.

WHY can't they just let you know!!!!! I've heard people getting EMAILS on their acceptances. Can any school do that? We only have a total of 70 people being accepted - that wouldn't be very many emails to send out.

Good Luck to everyone!!! I tell you one thing, there will be ONE BIG PARTY at my house this weekend if I do get in!! :rotfl:

At the school I applied to, the school calls each person who was accepted! They only accept 40 students into the program, so it isn't that many phone calls. So I am dreading getting anything in the mail and would rather get the phone call. I am begining to feel like a psycho girlfriend waiting by the phone for the boyfriend (nursing school) to call.

I emailed my school advisor and his secretary let me know that I was accepted in the Aug. class. So maybe you could email the school and they could let you know if you are in. I still have not gotten my letter yet, they informed me it would be the first couple of weeks in May before I get mine. Just maybe they will tell you if you email them. Good luck.
