When do clinicals normally start?

Published

I have fall semester before I take my 1st nursing course for my BSN. Just wondering when do clinicals start and are they for more than one semester?

They're all different. Your school should be able to tell you. 6:30 at my school

Clinicals are normally every semester, with maybe the first semester as an exception.

We start clinicals about a month and a half or so into fall smemester which is our second sememster. Our program starts in the summer with Intro. to Nursing Practices and Pharm I and with summer being so short they never do clinicals in the summer, not even during the second year.

We are on the quarter system(4 quarters a year including summer) and clinicals started in the first quarter, about 1/3 the way through I guess. We have clinicals each quarter for about 4-6 weeks, 2 x a week(and occassionally have an off week).

We start clinicals the second week of school.

Okay, please ignore my answer above. Duh. I wasn't paying attention apparently. Sorry.

Clinicals at my school start halfway through our first semester.

ok so i start ns-adn this upcoming fall with clinicals (wed) @ 730am, lecture (thurs) & lab (fridays)...”if” clinicals begin half way through the 1st semester...what do students normally do on their clinical days..?? do students still work on their skills checklist(s) in a lab setting or is that just a free day to work on studies until clinicals actually begin...what did your institute do?

My clinicals were either 7a to 3p 3 days a week, 7a-7p 2 days a week, or 1p-9p 3 days a week (we did that one semester on a med surg floor) and every semester had clinicals. This was an ADN program though. my BSN program was completion, no clinicals since all students were already licensed as RNs.

ADN program here. First semester, clinicals started in the 5th week. I'm about to start second semester and clinicals start in the 2nd week. I believe it's that way for the rest of the program. We had to learn a lot of fundamentals and skills before they set us loose in the hospital. Now that we have the fundamentals down, we will be ready for the hospital sooner.

Shellbie - we had extra lectures and days in the skills lab until we started clinicals. My program is set up to be heavy on theory and learning new skills at the beginning, and then the focus shifts to clinicals and writing care plans.
