  1. Hi!! I'm in Fayetteville/Hope Mills/Ft Bragg area. Typically LPN pay for this area should be $18 (BASE)-$20-$22hr (shift differential). Now, with your time of service as an LPN you should be offered significantly higher than that (depending on where you apply) . You will get the most hourly; LTC Nursing home, Government employed then Hospital--most to least. This is from my experience & people that I know. Any job that I've had benefits (for just myself) range from $80-$100. Family packages; $160-$250, per pay period. Hope this helps....Good Luck!
  2. We do have test review a week after exams. On this particular test instead of holding the review on our last day of week class, which was a Friday we got out really early, the instructor held the review on a non class day. That day I had another class which I had to leave early just to attend this review b/c I wanted to know what happened with our grades. So I ended up getting there around question 23 & it was never mentioned in my presence. I leaned over & asked another student what was said regarding the issue & it was told to me that on question #5 the answer could have been 2 options so a point was given for either answer………???......So that really meant my grade should have never changed AND I was told by another instructor before the test review that students grades were changed because of “scantron answer key being keyed in incorrectly” (instructors exact words). There should not be this many discrepancies within a program with so much significance. (And I self calculated grades using the same format given by instructor!) After we took our final and had to come back to the institute I was called prior to appointed time (not by my advisor) with a “message” that I had failed the semester. I was asked would I like to come the next day to talk about the situation but I was never sat down & shown anything or discussed the breakdown of how things were calculated. That next day visit I sat down & reviewed my appeal letter with a trusted instructor who just advised me to turn it in the Department Chair
  3. Ok, so first semester just ended couple of weeks ago and I have a couple of issues with my program (I'm sure like some other people). In this particular program you need to finish the semester with a 77 average, anything less with no rounding is unacceptable. My debate is that I think that the way my final grade was averaged out was a bit erroneous. Everything was told to me via telephone; I never knew or seen my final exam and my final grade was never told to me EXACTLY how it was calculated (meaning I was only told a whole number of 76 and not the numbers that followed the decimal... exact words from instructor was, "I don't remember all I was told was a 76"!! To make a long story short I wrote up an appeal letter to the Department Chair with some items mentioned that I felt that needed to be corrected due to non testable material that indeed ended up on a few of our exams AND that were told precisely by instructor "Not to worry about"! Those items were corrected and now my appeal was denied on a faculty level because grade went from 76.2 (original grade that was never mentioned before) to a 76.5. So of course, I calculated all of my grades with the corrections made at a faculty level and with three scenarios plugged in I keep getting a 76.8065....76.9065.....77.02501. This is because I was told one of the corrected question was on a quiz (being worth 8%) when I'm positive it came from a Unit Exam (being worth 75%). We have even had 3 occurrences where scantron answer keys were entered in wrong after grades were posted and had to be corrected due to mistake on instructor's behalf. Even our last exam right before the final, the grades were posted, 20minutes later they were removed and there was a 2pt deduction in most students' grades w/o any reason (which was changed back with appeal to original posted grade with another additional pt added for another 'non testable' item..... increasing that exam grade by 3.63636 pts On January 2, I will appear in front of the Dean to fight this appeal basically because I feel like my average was not calculated correctly & the fact everything was told to me OVER THE PHONE!! I could also use some tips or even advise as to what to expect. I've heard so many stories of students NOT WINNING!! Thanks in advance (Sorry so Long)
  4. I know right...the other semesters we have a couple of more Kaplan items to purchase then only 2 more books for Mental Health & Maternity!! It is RE-DIC-U-LOUS...but Im sure it will be alllllll worth it!! :)
  5. $600...wow...This semester my books ranged in a little over $3000. My tuition was only $838!! We have a list of a total of nine hardback books (that include ebooks) and Kaplan access codes!! I needed to take a full load, so I had to purchase 2 additional books (SOC 210 & a computer course)...NUR111 books were: Concepts of Nursing Practice, Med-Surg Nursing, Fund of Nursing, Clinical Nursing Skills & Techniques, Pharmacology of Nursing Care, Calculation of Drug Doses, Nursing Diagnosis Handbook, Mosby's Dictionary, Manual of Diagnostic & Laboratory Tests...thats not even including the supplemental books I HAD to purchase (NCLEX, Patho, Test Success, etc)! This is only just for first semester.
  6. LOL its funny to hear people making changes to their hair....I too cut mines into a short bob look but Im thinking to go a little shorter. Just wanted a change & the idea of hair constantly being up in secured ponytail I know I am sure to have alot of headaches. I have been studying lab values, watching nursing students youtube videos, reading up on a little patho, buying last minute older edition supplemental books, starting & laminating cheat sheets (notecards) for clinicals, organizing binders on my shelf, watching my account go into the negatives :), looking for a possible part time PCT job and spending as much time possible with the family.
  7. You should work the weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun-lesser hours) and Mondays (lesser hours) that way during the week you're dedicated time for school. Your school schedule sounds insane...NS for me is three days a week, Wed-clinical, Thurs-lecture & Fri-Lab!! Im sure eventually, your situation will work out try to over stress about it. Once your program starts you tell should discuss with your supervisor how demanding your course load is & maybe then, they could reduce your hours. Good luck to you!!
  8. @ cblnurse2be, ahhh that would be awesome!! thank you :bowingpur
  9. Im sooo jealous of you guys who have syllabus/assignments ALREADY!! Im able to get my books 8days before school but I won't be able to get an actual syllabus until the 22nd BUMMERRRRR. We do have a physical assessment quiz scheduled on our calendar for the 31st (they did tell us that @ orientation). I still dont even really know how the classes are broke down/consist of. Granted, Fundamentals is one. Drug Dosage is a self study course but not sure about other courses. BUT, WE SHALL SEE.....in 12 days!!!
  10. Great words of encouragement!! It seems most of us start school on the 20th!! Good luck on your boards & Good luck to everyone else!
  11. goodness, i don't even know if excited is the proper word! i got my acceptance email back in april a month later i had supplies/uniforms, immunizations/titers (which wasn't due until july13th), attending a cpr recert class, registered for background/drug test, had orientation about 2wks ago which we were already given a packet to review for drug calculations...the only thing left on my list is...over $3,000 worth of books to be picked up. hopefully, the bookstore will be open by august 1st. so....i'm pretty much "more" than ready to go. i can not wait!! good luck everyone
  12. We mothers have to make sure we have a good support team in place! I have three children: 9, 2 & 1!! And everyday I look into their faces it reassures me that completing nursing school is A MUST. It’s just my husband & I against the world. My institute will be paying for the childcare (thankful for that) I have private agency helping with the cost of supplies & books. Prayer changes everything...Luckily, everything it just falling into place that how I know this has to be done. Anything is manageable!! Hang in there ladies...lets do it for the children (yayyy) MOMS & NURSES ROCK
  13. Im sooooo ready to get this ball rolling.....
  14. Oh NO...no cleavage!! They will tell you to cover that up when you go & take your picture for your ID badge!!
  15. Dress as you would to an interview!! Simple jewelry, professional hair style, NO JEANS...oh a closed toes shoes!! If you wouldnt wear it "inside" the hospital near patients....DONT WEAR IT!! I volunteer @ my local hospital we had a 3day orientation & they were sending people home (employees, volunteer, whoever) who did not fit the attire. Good Luck though & hang in there it will definitely pay off.
