What did you want to be when you grew up?

And did it have to do with nursing?

I had 3 things I wanted to be: A nurse, a scientist, and a special education teacher. I cannot remember a time in my life where I wanted to be something different.

I'm kind of all 3 :) I did a lot of work with special needs people as a nurse. The scientist part comes through with using your nursing judgement and trying to put the pieces together with the Dr. to make a clear diagnosis :) Also, I am attaining my degrees in Psychology and Sociology... social sciences...

A lot of nurses I speak with have wanted to be a nurse, teacher, or vet... So, I'm interested: What did you want to be (who knows, maybe I'll do a research paper on it... LOL)?

other than my dream job of an Archaeologist, I wanted to be a singer/dancer/actress. I was a singer/dancer/actress all through high school in productions and in show choir. I still think I could do that..... a true triple threat... but how would one do that, being a responsible adult with a family/mortgage??? Pipe dreams...

Then there are the backup dreams of being a writer....

And the other back up dream of being a professional down hill skiier....

and owning a flower shop, during my times of dreaming at work where it's chaotic and the patients are chomping at your heels with yet another request... working in a flower shop with wonderful odors, music, a gentle breeze and NO TALKING... no bells going off... no overhead paging.... no phones ringing... SILENCE. Maybe a fax going off here or there but otherwise silence.

In case you don't know, or if you do, I will remind you, there is a specialty of Nursing that is Forensics. It deals with crimes, ie rape victims, and others, and sounds like it may suit you. Especially with the CPS angle, Google Forensic nursing, I'm not sure if it is a certificate program or how long, I looked into it a few years ago. I know you would work w/law enforcement closely.

Just thinkin.

That is a lot of what a SANE nurse does too, they help with rape and molestation victims. There is an open position for one here locally and I wish I could apply, but they require a lot of education and experience. It will definitely be something I look into down the road. It's so awesome that nurses have a place in that field too. It's another area dear to my heart!

You could be the person who illustrates nursing books. That'd probably be a fun job :)

Oh, that would be fun!

I used to draw my muscles and bones when I was learning A&P!

I plan to indulge in some art classes when I graduate nursing school.

And you also reminded me of something funny I did when I was about 4 or 5 years old...

I drew brassieres and guts on the bodies of my baby dolls.

When I was in elementary school I wanted to be the one who picked out the names for nail polish and lipstick colors - the most fabulous job in the world! :nurse:

Now that's cute!

I wanted to be an assassin/sniper/spy for the US GOVERNMENT...

I wanted to be a pharmacist, pediatrician or psychiatrist. Unfortunately my parents decided what school I could and could not attend and the one they picked for me did not have good programs for any of the three. They did however have an awesome nursing program.....so here I am :)

I always liked science and wanted to be "in medicine" in some capacity. I wanted to be a vet because i love pets. My family said they wouldn't help me with school for that, so I wanted to be a vet tech (just 2 years of community college). Family said if I did that, they'd disown me (they didn't consider that job "good enough"). So I did what they wanted me to do for a few years, was miserable, and finally saved up enough money to get myself to nursing school and do what I wanted to do.

In middle school i wanted to be a vet,but I really didn't like seeing animals hurt. When I was in high school and beginning of college I wanted to be a professional horseback rider. My goal was to get to the olympics in three day eventing. I discovered through personal experence that being a professional wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be. I kind of fell into being a scrub tech, one of my riding friends suggested that I look into the program, thought it looked like fun, went through the program, was a CST for 8 years then went into nursing, well I made it through school, just waiting to take the nclex. Yes I still ride and compete, but it is for fun.

I wanted to be a Pediatrician. I am going for my RN with hopes of getting my PNP. So I guess my dream as a child didnt change that much.

I thought I wanted to be a doctor, but I knew something about it just wasn't me. Then I wanted to be a social worker, but I thought it would be too depressing. Being a nurse felt like home to me. I knew I was built to help people especially children. But I was strongly discouraged from pursuing nursing and somehow ended up in engineering. I finally got tired of asking myself WTH happened and started asking myself WTH are you going to DO about it? So here I am in my thirties starting nursing school. I think I would be unhappy as a doctor. I want to be more involved in the actual care. I think nursing will be a good fit for me.:redpinkhe I guess I'll find out in 2013:yeah:

Army Aviation Officer

Federal Law Enforcement Officer/Agent

Color Blind - Can't do either so I jump around. For now, nursing school is on the menu.

Been a science teacher (not intentionally), part-time paramedic, protection park ranger, and police officer the stratum of law enforcement to which I am limited (see above).

Strangely enough, I've always wanted to go to law school but don't want to be a lawyer. Oh, well, not spending money on it now. Maybe if I get a free coupon or something.

I have only ever wanted to be a nurse. I think I was around the age of 5 when I started saying that I wanted to be a nurse. All through elementary, junior high and high school, I not once ever changed my mind. Now at the age of 33, I will finally start NS this fall!:)
